Garmin 3590LMT -- No Password Option?

My wife just purchased a 3590LMT on the advice of a friend, and she asked me how to set the anti-theft password. I can't figure it out, and the manual is no help. Does this unit not provide an anti-theft password setting as prior units did?

Thanks.

Doesn't look like it.

It appears that many of the new units do not support that feature.

Garmin Lock

Interesting. Thanks.

my 2455 doesn't have one ...

... and frankly, I don't miss it. Used it on my 750 and found it to be a pain to use, so I stopped.

Garmin pulled this feature

Garmin pulled this feature from all units in the 2012 lineup. I recall the site discussing the pros and cons of this decision. I can't be bothered right now to find it but let's just say some people weren't happy.

This was a feature

I never used, but I know a lot of folks that did. Wonder why they removed it?

It was more trouble than

It was more trouble than good.

Useless

Even if it had the feature it would have been useless. If stolen, it would have been gone anyway. Unless you had some really personal pics stored on the unit, it is useless. Theives probably would have figured out how to get around it anyway.

Garmin Response

FYI, Garmin, of course, confirmed that the 2012 Nuvi line does not feature password lock. Howvever, they implied they've been getting a lot of complaints about this, and they strongly suggested I submit a suggestion to reinstate password lock under the "idea" box program. They mentioned a new firmware update may be released that will reinstitute the feature -- not making it mandatory, but providing it as an option, as before.

Don't expect it to be a free update if they do decide to re-implement it. They pulled the ecoRoute feature from all 2012 units as well and it's now a $10.00 option. Either that or it will be a hardware update: the user gets to buy a new GPS unit to enable the feature. rolleyes

I can see possibly no

I can see possibly no password being an issue because it can contain a lot of information about you... but as for it being stolen .. i dont find that being a problem as the unit can be tracked from you dashboard smile ... im thinking about buying my wife one smile

I do believe it has the eco route pre installed

All This...

As I learn about all the features they keep removing I am still convinced that keeping my 765T the best plan. It was right after the 7x5 series that features started disappearing en-mass.

Nuiv 3590LMT

Even without the password lock, which my wife really misses for some reason (I think it's more of a matter of my 5 year old not "reprogramming" it), I have to say she loves this device. It has several updated and upgraded features over her old one (the 880). After owning numerous Garmins, this is probably our favorite, notwithstanding the strgange disappearance of the lock feature. Just FYI from a recently new owner, in case you're considering a new device.

Have a nice weekend, everyone.
