Illinois Construction Zones

Illinois will begin using photo radar in freeway work zones starting in July.

Beginning in July the State of Illinois will use speed cameras in areas designated as 'Work Zones' on major freeways.

Anyone caught by these devices will be mailed a $375.00 ticket for the FIRST offense, but the SECOND offense will cost $ 1000.00 and comes with a 90-Day suspension.

Drivers will also receive demerit points against their license , which allows insurance companies to raise their rates.

This represents the harshest penalty structure yet for a city or state using PHOTO enforcements.

The State will begin with TWO camera vans issuing tickets in work zones with speed limits lowered to 45 MPH.

Photographs of both the Driver's face and License plate are taken.

DOT link not working now.

Yikes!

The best thing to do is set cruise control (if you have it). The fines have been that high for at least a year now. It still doesn't slow people down. One other very important thing to know. The lowered speed limit applies even if workers are not present.

*edit*

Hang up the phone in construction zones as well.

Just a thougt

When on vacation, I always drive Barbara's car. We are not married and do not live together. If I should get nailed, how would they identify the driver? (Me)

Very good question

I was wondering the same thing. If they use some kind of recognition program, good luck! If a person is from out of state, then what?

doesn't matter ...

... the ticket will be mailed to the owner of record. It is the responsibility of the registered owner of the vehicle to respond to any tickets issued to said vehicle, regardless of who's driving.

Don't ask me how I know, just understand that I do ...

Yeah but.

The article and the law specify the driver.

Either Barbara will nail you to the wall, or else you may never get nailed again.
