My Nuvi 760 is a complete train wreck

Guys, I can't pinpoint the exact time when my 760 started acting up, but it's essentially unusable at this time. I did an update to 5.30 and installed BaseCamp maybe a couple months ago. I haven't used the Nuvi much since then. I tried to use it in the past week and have had major issues with it. There are a bunch of things wrong. The display get very strange and the device usually freezes up when that happens ( http://i1180.photobucket.com/albums/x414/billsouth/nuvi.jpg ). It often won't boot, you can't turn it off most of the time when it does boot. I can remove the battery and it then acts normal for a brief period. However, the device is essentially unusable now.
I rolled the firmware back and I believe 4.90 is now installed. It doesn't look like 5.30 is even available any longer...at least it no longer shows as an update thru the updater system.
I did have complete back ups of the system files taken when it was new, but that computer was re-formatted and I can't find those files. I did find the maps (2GB) and tried to install those morning but just get a warning message about not being able to connect to the Garmin server. These maps are 2009 era.
I've done a couple hard resets and that doesn't appear to have fixed things. I deleted data, POIs, etc. and that doesn't appear to have helped.
Is this 760 ready for the scrap pile? Thanks for any suggestions.
Can i sneak in a couple 1450 questions?
I got my 1450LMT yesterday. I thought I had ordered a 4.3" GPS... I was a bit surprised when I opened it.
My first impressions are how responsive the device is compared to the older units. BIG improvement and long over-due!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've got two back ups done. I've added my POIs and favorites and have deleted the misc stuff taking up room. I'll do the map update and large JCV file when my SD card arrives.
Do I have to touch something to get the Junction View to work or is it automatically displayed if there is data available at a given location.
Is there any way to hide the side bar that shows all the user-configurable data?

Have you downloaded the manual and checked there?
Illiterate? Write for free help.
Yes,
I most certainly have. I don't see a picture of the feature and find no mention of the various configurations one can select.
Thx.

Traffic Receiver Registered?
The GTM 20 is definitely recorded on the myGarmin website.
My GTM35 that came with my 2460LMT is NOT registered nor do I see any option to register it.
I can only find the option to register a Nuvi, but not a traffic receiver.
Can you please explain how to register it.

I registered it the same way the device is registered. They may not require it any longer and that may be the reason you don't have to "register" it.

Registration Not Required

CraigW indicated
"I think it's possible that keeping the traffic receiver in your name and account would give the buyer both power and traffic but it's contrary to Garmin's Terms of Service:
Also, If that's the case, as per CraigW's statement from Garmin
Terms and Conditions
Lifetime traffic updates may not be transferred to another person or another Garmin product"
My own experience is this.
I have two GTM20's, both not registerd, one came with my 660, the other with my 765T, both had Free liftetime traffic with ads. I bought the Premium Navteq subscription for the 765T. I can use the GTM20 with paid subscription on either the 765T or the 660 and receive no ads. If I use the free with ads GTM20 on either unit I get ads.
Conclusion, the subscription is NOT tied to the unit and need not be registered to use on another device. The subscription is on the receiver itself.
If you sell the Traffic Rceiever it should work on the buyers Nuvi 6xx or 7xx series since they use the same cradle power connector.

What you state makes sense to me. I had a paid subscription (maybe $60??) on my 760 and never had ads.
I have already sold my broken 760 and the traffic receiver (separately). I'm leaving the traffic receiver registered in my name on Garmin's website unless the purchaser wants me to unregister it. Perhaps it will work for him.
I wish I could be more specific on this, but it was quite a while ago ....

undocumented feature?
Is there any way to hide the side bar that shows all the user-configurable data?
I did a hard reset today on the 1450 and finally figured out what this is since the side bar was hidden following the reset.
Tools>Settings>Map>(scroll down to reveal) Map Data Layout
Choices are Standard vs. More Data
Well-hidden setting and I see nothing about it in the OM.

Anyone with experience backing up their Nuvi to a MAc?
