MapInstall bug?

I’ve been trying to spend some time with BaseCamp and MapInstall to learn their capabilities. I’m having an odd issue with MapInstall that is preventing me from adding maps to my new 1450LMT. My initial map update (to 2013.10) included just the lower 49 US states. Last evening I downloaded the full map update to the ‘computer only’ so I could practice adding additional maps to the 1450. I’ve installed an 8GB card to the device so there is plenty of room for the large JCV file and additional maps.

When I attempt to add a couple of Canadian provinces to the device, I am getting a warning that says I’m trying to add 10 maps (all in Mexico) that are not unlocked for my device and the process fails. So, I re-started the computer and attempted to de-select every single map I can see. However, the little green progress bar at the bottom of the MapInstall interface always shows I’m still installing 10 maps even though I believe I’ve deselected all the maps available to me. I continue on in the process and keep getting the warning about adding maps in Mexico that are not allowed on my device. Any thoughts on this? Thanks.

Is your

Is your SD card in the Nuvi when you are selecting regions to load?

Using the latest version of MapInstall and having the full version of CN North America 2013.10 on my computer, I see a similar issue to what you are getting if I have the SD card in the Nuvi.

If a put the SD card in the card reader on my computer and disconnect the Nuvi from it, I then can run MapInstall and it reads 0 maps selected until I start selecting regions to add to the card.

If you have the SD card in the Nuvi and run MapInstall, I think your problem may have something to do with the program reading 2013.10 data from both your computer and the connected Nuvi preinstalled maps.

Yes,

the SD card was installed when I was doing this yesterday. I've since tried a few variations based upon you comments and haven't had any result. It still gives me the warning about loading Mexican maps.

I don't have any maps on the SD card presently, just the JCV file.

I have

uninstalled and re-installed some stuff and there has been no change. I have never seen an option permitting me to select where files will be installed (Nuvi vs. SD card). I'm still getting the warning about illicit Mexican maps.

WOW. What the heck has happened to Garmin engineering??!!

Here's the warning message I keep seeing:

http://i1180.photobucket.com/albums/x414/billsouth/garmin.jp...

I notice when I boot the device now that there's some mention of Mexican maps being installed on my brand new device purchased via Amazon. What's up with that?

I'll get a screen shot later.

Adding map regions.

If your 1450 only came with the lower 49 states when it was new, I don't think you can add other regions such as Canada or Mexico via a map update. You would need to purchase these maps separately from Garmin. The map update installer will only unlock the region that was pre-installed on the nuvi when it was new.

I'm supposed to have Can and USA. I also see a country in S America on the list of things I can select plus some stuff in the Caribbean. I don't think I have anything in Mx and I can't select any Mexican locations via the MapInstall program.

Can I selectively remove a Canadian province, for example?

Change the EXE.

I found the current MapInstall to be buggy. However, a modified version I downloaded to allow map installs to any drive seems to work perfectly. Find a copy of that modified file and replace the Garmin installed file with the modified file.

The country you are seeing in South America is French Guiana, it is available on lower 48 states only and the full North America including Mexico map versions.

I can't understand why

I am seeing these warnings about Mx.

When I boot the device I see this (truncated) text at the bottom edge of the screen:

"The data for Mexico contains certain data from Instituto Nacional de Est.."

I suspect the truncated text is:

Instituto Nacional de Estadística y Geografía

sad

When I view my map info data

it says:

CN North America NT 2013.10
[1] US & Canada

CN North Anerica 2013.10

Have you tried a hard reset yet?
If not backup your favorites and give that a try.

If no results I would download the map again, perhaps your last download received a corrupted map.

For US & Canada Maps there should be nothing on that map regarding Mexico. But as mentioned French Guiana will be included.

I haven't...

...but certainly can. I've got backups and a couple of whole system images.

I think I figured out what happened but certainly don't know why.

I can see three different map sets available within BaseCamp:

Global Map, Version 2.0, not lockable, installed in Program Files on computer

CN NA NT 2013.10, Version 20.13, not lockable, installed on the 1450

CN NA NT 2013.10, Version 16.10, Unlocked, installed in My Documents on computer

It's this last map that is causing the Mexican problem. I zoomed into Mexico City and this map shows lots of cities throughout the country and very main highways. The map does NOT appear to be navigable as it shows no minor roads or streets.

When viewing the 20.13 version, I see far less detail in Mexico, in general. When viewing the Global map, I see essentially no detail or cities, just a few prominent highways, as I would expect.

I guess I need to delete the 16.10 version of the map and attempt the download again. Maybe they'll send me the correct verison of the map sad

In MapInstall, I see that it permits me to select from two different 2013.10 map sets, but no version information is shown. I know the second map set displayed in the list is the "problem" Mexican map set. If I select the first map set shown, I can install maps without getting the warnings about Mx.

I have two different versions of the 2013.10 map. One is wrong and should not have downloaded to my computer, the other is right.

I believe the first map listed here is the problem:
