Note

Do you realise that crude oil is being delivered to refiners from Texas and Alberta at discounts of 50% from the 'rack rates' these days?

West Texas crude is rack priced at about $80/bbl and refiners are getting it for roughly $40 - Tar Sands crude is priced at about $70 and refiners are paying $35.

There is zero justification for the prices being paid at the pumps in Canada or the US these days except that there is no political will to reign in the thieves.

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/report-on-business/industry-n...

http://www.mining.com/2012/04/12/canadian-crude-jumps-7-to-3...

Discounts have increased since these articles were written - and WTC suffers similar pricing 'issues' - I truly love the way they claim that these discounts are 'losses' - they still make a fortune - the only 'losses' are to their potential profit line and are more than made up in the refining and retailing segments, where prices do not reflect the discounted cost of crude.

I read where they are

I read where they are expecting fuel prices to drop to $3.00 per gallon this summer. I hope so.

I Womder Why

Interesting to note, gas prices in NY are cheaper than Alaska.

Tax in NY highest in the country at 69.6
Cheapest I found today was 3.49.

Tax in Alaska is lowest in the country at 26.4
Chepaest I found today was 3.90.

I suppose the reason is the proximity of New Jerseys oil refineries to NY.

Alaska has the crude pipeline and according to Wilkpedia has six refineries. Trucking must be quite expensive in Alaska to be offered at such a high price.

I Agree

with about $3.00 this summer, but it won't result in avoiding another recession because people are not spending their money in anticipation of a Federal Tax rise - no matter who wins. The country simply can't continue to make the National Debt grow, as it is now, beyond $17 Trillion.

An Europe isn't helping.

Sorry.
Fred

$3.27

I paid $3.27 yesterday here in the People's Republic yesterday.

I did notice this morning the WaWa jumped from $3.27 to $3.33 since yeasterday. I'll have to look this afternoon to see if other stations follow.

Gas is under $3 here

I've paid under $3 for the last couple fill-ups in my SUV. It's $2.87/gallon at a Murphy Mart near me. I really like the fact that this station went up a couple months ago. Before that the Sunoco and Exxon were to pricey and I would drive further (on my way to work) for more reasonable pricing. Once Murphy Mart opened, they drove the price down $0.10/gallon or more all along the road our development is off of.

Our country is spending more than we're taking in just like the European countries in the news. We might not be quite as bad off - yet - but that is where we are headed. The wars have helped a lot to get us in this shape but if we don't get our house in order soon we're in for some tough times.

Gas Prices

Yesterday, the price of Costco gasoline hit $317.9 per gallon - the cheapest in our area. However, on the market, oil prices are rising once again.

You could call this "the silly season," as the elections approach. It'll be curious to see what happens to gas prices following the election - no matter who wins.

Fred

I like it !

Although not as low as I'd like them to be but I paid $2.999/gal near Fredericksburg, VA on Tuesday and the same near Latta, SC yesterday. These were both at major gas company pumps.
At home here in FL it is $3.149. When I left 24 days ago the price was $3.369 !

Gas Prices, (you are right but...!)

In 2008, Gas prices peaked for 3 month only!!, then sharply dropped to record low. But since April/2011 we had been breaking the gas price records for more than a year with no hope of gaining the fair oil price again.

I wonder how two states next

I wonder how two states next to each other can have such differing price taxes (nearly $.30 different) yet the cost of gas at those stations is nearly the same.

It varies in the same town

I have a Sunoco near me that is at 3.539. Another one that is about 1 mile down the road is at 3.779. It makes absolutely no sense.

No, they don't

sunsetrunner wrote:

It is the local retailer who gets 8 cents a gallon.

The oil companies make money at every step along the way, running a reverse ponzi scheme, taking a percentage on pumping, transporting, refining, transporting again, local distribution and profit on selling between their various self-owned companies along the way. You should have a look at their balance sheets - it is obscene just how much money oil companies make after all of their expenses for each and every gallon of gas (based solely on their global revenue being derived as sellers of gaoline - and that presumes that they GIVE all of their derivative products - lubricants, textiles, fertilisers and so on to their customers, FOR FREE!!!).

Yes, taxes are relatively high, but they haven`t been significantly increased in the past 5 years in real terms - and since crude is now selling at 50% of the rack rates (West Texas Crude is delivered to the pipeline at about $45 a barrel) there is no reason for gasoline above about $1.50 a gallon at the pumps in the most expensive jurisdictions.

Claiming that world market forces drive the price of gasoline is a crock - the demand is not there, extracted reserves are at almost record levels and besides, it isnt as if a refinery in the South can sell it`s fuel in Beijing. And don`t get me started on the lie that is ethanol.

Our politicians are part of the rip-off, satisfied to collect their percentage of the proceeds of the heist, living like dogs, sitting under the table collecting scraps of the `meal` from their owners, the `family` that is the consortium of oil companies.
