Big improvements have been made to myDASHBOARD.

As you know, using myDashboard to update your GPS has always been a bit of a crap shoot because all you ever saw was that there were "Updates Available". I'm happy to see that myDashboard has been updated so that, like Webupdater you can pick and choose exactly what you what to update.

When you login into your myGarmin account and select myDashboard it will look pretty much like it always has. The big change is when you select UPDATE, under the Software Update section in the bottom left corner of the screen.

Much like the Windows Update facility, clicking on UPDATE will take you to a page with 2 headings - Recommended Updates and Optional Updates. For my 3790 I see a System Updates heading under Recommended Updates and if I click on that a list of available system updates is shown. I you want to install any of the Recommended Updates, it appears that you have to install them all, but at least you know what is being updated.

Under the Optional Updates heading I see a View Available Files heading. If I click on that I see headings for Text, Vehicles, and Voices. Clicking on any of those headings allows you to pick and choose from individual files.

Once you have selected everything you want to update, it's just a matter of clicking on Install Selected Software, at the bottom of the page.

It may just be possible to finally recommend this update method over Webupdater. wink

Great Improvement

Much better now that you can manage and control updates.

not impressed.

I selected only the new Jill voice on the optional updates for my 855. In addition to installing Jill in the \Garmin\Voice, it also reinstalled without my permission all the ASR (speech recognition) language files for languages I had previously deleted in the \Garmin\ASR folder. So I had to go in and delete them again. I will stick with Web Updater.

Hmm, maybe I take back what I wrote above....

Dashboard

It also reinstalled the MSN file I had previously deleted, even tho my 855 has never had a MSN receiver and the MSN files are now obsolete anyway.

The problem is that myDashboard does not allow you to uncheck the System Updates, even if all you want to do is install an optional update.

Again, I will stick with Web Updater for now.
