Garmin Vehicle Suction Cup

How many different types of Garmin Vehicle Suction Cups are there? The reason I ask is a few days ago I had a vehicle suction cup that probably came with a Garminfone or Nuvifone. I tried attaching my Garmin Nuvi 350, but it didn't seem long enough. So, I found that the one that belongs to the Garmin Nuvi 350 actually adjustable. Anyway, does anybody know if the URLs below are the only two that Garmin makes or are there other Garmin Vehicle Suction Cups as well?

Suction cup

I have a suction cup model 010-10747-00 and long time ago I took my car for a car wash and someone remove my suction cup from my windshield to clean the inside of my window and since then my cup fall off from time to time ,I keep making the surface of the cup wet before i can use again, but with the heat my cup fall off, every few days and I am glad that I removing the gps before parking the car,I have try many things including using crazy clue but it still fall off.Anyone have any suggestion how to keep the suction cup to stay in place?

Garmin Vehicle Suction Cup

I was having a problem keeping the suction cup that came with the units from falling off the window. I replaced my Suction cups with Bracketron SWM-400-BL for my Garmin 660 and 2460. The suction cup has a 3 inch diameter of clear plastic. I just returned from a 5000 mile trip with temperature below freezing and highs in the nineties and didn't have a problem. It can be used on Garmin, Tom Tom, Magellan and Satellite Radios.

Vasoline

Apply a tiny amount of petroleum jelly to the suction cup's rim and apply it to the window.

Suction cup

Couldn't Petroleum Jelly damage the rubber of the suction cup? Perhaps a silicon-based plumbing lubricant would work...

I would say the OP's use of

I would say the OP's use of superglue did more damage to the rubber than petroleum jelly would.

Diamond tipped drill bits and Molly bolts>>>

Just drill through the windshield and suction cup then stick small screws through using Molly bolts...works like a charm smile

I AM KIDDING!!!

Now come on, you know you have tried "SPIT" before, licking those envelopes and stamps etc.
I could never bring myself to do that, and it took a few years to convince my wife that it was not something that looked ladylike!!!!

Custom Mounts

Does anyone know if there a resource or website that makes custom mounts for specific vehicles?

This was discussed recently

I have three suction cups....

for three different Garmin models in different cars. I clean the disk with alcohol every month and use a little water on the suction cup. This seems to work.

PS ....

I am not a fan of petroleum jelly - too messy for my taste.

helping the seal not always the answer

While some form of moisture may help keep the seal if the suction cup is otherwise in good shape, this isn't always the case. I have a suction cup that has failed, not at the window to cup interface, but rather is coming loose at the mechanical connection where the cup is pulled to create the vacuum. Since a good vacuum is never created, the cup doesn't stay attached to the window long and moisture will not help this. So far I have not found a way to fix the cup.

Crazy Glue? OH NO!

I might suggest, that if you have put Crazy Glue on that suction cup it will probably never stick properly again. The suction cup depends on fitting to the glass almost perfectly flat, but the crazy glue softens and "melts" most any surface, creating roughness and leakage.

Replace The Mount

I encountered this myself and had Garmin replace the mount under warranty. In my case the rubber split at the top of the cup allowing the rest of the mount to simply fall out. Yours will likely do the same. There is no way to fix this except to replace the mount.

Astroglide.. Clean the rubber with isopropyl alcohol then put a light coating of Astroglide around the circumference of the disk and stick it to a clean windshield and it will never come off. This creats one hell of a suction.. KIRK

Ram Mount Suctin Cup For Garmin

I bought a Ram Mount scution cup for a Uniden Home Patrol last week and I am impressed with the quality. I am jsut wondering if anybody here is using any Ram Suction Cup Mounts for their Garmins? they seem more heavy duty than the OEM Garmin. Granted, not every person needs or wants a heavier duty mount, but then again some of us just might!

Easy

Both are water-based, and don't damage the rubber cup. Easy to clean as well.

My 255w rubber mount came

My 255w rubber mount came off the round metal device that compresses it to the windshield. I tapped the pin out and took it apart to see if I could get it bsck on. The cup where it attaches to the metal device was split in several places.

The one I ordered from ebay for $12 came in so that should give me another year are so. I also found one at Office Depot that is a universal and is supposed to work real well. Going to try it if this one craters. I did get the old one back together but it probably wouldn't last long.

mount

My suction cup mount that came with it started falling off the wind shield after about 6 months. I stopped using it and got the bean bag mount thing for one car and a mount that clips in the heater vent for the other car. I actually like the vent mounted one best.

I have found that the friction garmin one worked the best for my vehicle.

Does the one in the example hold on when making fairly sharp turns and stops?

proclip < thumbs up

I just got the proclip after learning about it at toyotanation forum. Really like it for my Highlander. Just wish they offered it in tan.

Garmin Suction Cup + Mounts

I was looking awhile ago for an extended length mount for a 1300. Akron have a neat selection and of course Amazon has loads of bracket/cup sellers. Cheap as too!

No cups here

I don't like the suction cup type of mounts in my truck. It tells someone that there may be something valuable in the vehicle. Even the cup impressions are a giveaway. Plus the sunscreens do not fit properly. So I decided not to 'stick' with it. rolleyes

I've been keeping an eye out for beanbag types. Finally found one a K-Mart for $20.00. It's just a beanbag shaped like a doughnut with a smooth plastic floor in the middle for the suction cup. I love it. Now when I park, I just move the bag to the floorboard and no one can see it.
