Map work around?

Any one figured out how to download available Maps on Garmins website? Let me explain. If you login, and go to myMaps and then click Details you get all the Maps you have had on a particular unit (i'm guessing, but looks right). Some of these, it gives you an option of downloading again. Of course when you try that, it just wants to give you the newest. I've never been able to just download the Map onto My Computer, always gives me an error, therefore I have had to back up the whole unit each time. Not exactly what I want to do.

I have downloaded using the just to computer option many times when just adding the map update to my laptop and as soon as the update starts I disconnect my Garmin and it has worked fine.

I never have tried to go back to a prior map though and download again so I was wondering why you would want to do that. I usually leave 1-2 of the prior maps in my desktop just in case I wanted to compare a certain area to see what changed but never have actually done it. smile

If I understand you...

I'm not totally clear on what you're saying but think I may be right.

First--when downloading maps (first-time or a repeat), do you use the auto-updater (Garmin's recommended Option 1) or do you use Option 2, the standalone updater? I suggest using Option 2.

-I don't think Garmin offers map updates of older maps. Unless convinced otherwise, I believe the only map download available is for the current map version, whatever that may be.

-When using Option 2 (and maybe Option 1 as well), when you start a map update download (either first time or a repeat), one of the early popup windows has a lower-left button that can be clicked to bring up your installation Options. Click this and you'll see the options to: install to GPS only (Garmin default), install to computer only, or install to computer and GPS. It's also where you're given the option of where on the computer to install the map, whether the download is to be saved, and for space-limited devices, what subset of North America you wish to install.

Is this any help or have I misunderstood your initial message?

Actually

The option is there to download older maps. In my case it shows me I can download back to 2012.20. Of course it won't give me the d/l. And yes, i've tried install to computer only and every which way. Don't get to keep the Map on my Computer. That's all i'm really trying to accomplish here.
