2460 - Voice Alerts

I installed custom poi's with MP3 alerts for Rest Areas, etc. However, I only get a ping alert. Does the 2460 use wav files or MP3 files for voice alerts - Rest Area Ahead, etc.

.Wav

You need .WAV files and sox.exe with a 24xx nuvi.

Thanks so much for the quick reply. Leaving out for a business trip tomorrow and appreciate the info.

Just make sure to put

Just make sure to put sox.exe in the correct location after un-zipping it. Plus name the wav exactly the same as the csv except for the extension.

Use the simulation mode on the GPS to try it out before you leave. See http://www.poi-factory.com/node/31482

I have followed the

I have followed the directions to the letter. Put Sox.exe in the folder, downloaded Goldwave and converted the files, put the new wav. files in the poi folder (they worked) and used the POI loader.
POI's uploaded and sox file kicked in. Ran a simulator route and I still get a ding alert and no voice alert. ????? Extensions are correct.

Which POI Loader

A couple of things to check,

1st, Make sure you have sox.exe v14.0.1 by copying the 2 lines below into a new text file and save it as sox.bat. Save it in the same directory as the sox.exe program. Run the bat file to see your version.

sox.exe --version
pause

2nd, make sure you don'tr have more than 1 version of POILoader.exe on your PC. A few versions ago Garmin changed the file name from "POILoader.exe" to "POI Loader.exe" and placed it in another different folder when installing it. Many people ended up with multiple programs and problems during this period.

3rd, make sure your shortcut is pointing to the correct "POI Loader.exe" folder.

4th, always check wav and bmp files for double extensions. Make sure your folder option allow you to see the file extensions.

Good luck, I'm leaving on the road for work.

@jcg4550 - if you are not sure about the extension, then look at http://www.poi-factory.com/node/30393

Folder option for extensions

The biggest problems with the alerts and icons not working are the files not being named the same except for extensions and having double extensions. Double-check each of them. The best way to prevent double extensions is to go to your folder options in the control panel and click view then find hide extensions for known file types and remove the check mark. Click ok.

Wow! I give up. I have read every post and followed the direction to the letter. Everything was and is correct, but it still will not work. ??? Even changed from single to continuious tone on settings.
Nothing..

Update::
I added the MP3 files and the Wav files in the custom POI folder and loaded them both to the Nuvi. Now it works!!!!

What model Garmin are you

What model Garmin are you using? You have several models listed on your page.If the 2460 it does not play mp3. You file should look like something like this.

My pois.
Rest stop.csv
Rest stop.wav

are you saying the folder looked like this
My pois.
Rest stop.csv
Rest stop.mp3
Rest stop.wav
and you used POI Loader to compile the folder to your 2460?

2460 LMT - Voice Alerts

Yes. Correct. If I had only the MP3 file it did not work correctly. If I had only the Wav file it did not work correctly. When I put both the MP3 and Wav. files in place with the POI loader. Boom. Worked great. Did a demo route and an actual route to be sure. Just can not explain it...!!! It is the Garmin 2460 LMT.

Hate to ask, but would you make a backup of your Garmin\POI folder (if there is anything in there that you need and cannot easily reload with POI Loader), and then do a new run of POI Loader.

In that run, ask POI Loader to delete all POI before you do another run which loads only a folder that contains just the wav and csv files for the POI you are testing (yes, I know you will have to create a new folder to point to).

As you said, what happened defies explanation. I am asking that you eliminate extraneous variables to help us understand and/or verify.

Thanks.

PS: I'll have to check my memory by finding my test files, but I think I recall trying both a .mp3 file and a .wav file (which had different messages) in the same folder and it was the .wav file that POI Loader chose to use.

Starnge Indeed !!!!!

Your signature shows you also have a 350 and 760.
Have you tried the defective file in one of those units (if you still have them) to see if the file is defective or there is a problem with the 2460.

I have a 660, 765T and 2460LMT. When I create Speed/Redlight POI I use a .wav file with sox.exe loaded and the POI functions with alerts on all three units. The older units can accept .mp3 or .wav sounds wheras the 2460 will only play the .wav.

Yea! I think I am going to start over as @jgermann suggested. I have got to get to the bottom of this.
