2460 run while connected to PC

Is there any way to get out of the computer interface mode and actually use the GPS in its normal operating mode while connected to a PC?

Nuvi 2460

yes

Plug a regular USB to Mini (not the USB to Micro that came with the unit) on the back of the mount and place the 2460 on the mount.

My old one 255W needed to

My old one 255W needed to use only one usb cable. Like yours, the 2450 needs two: one for data and one for charging. Have no idea why Gramin creates it more complicated.

Another method

Using the Garmin cable

After the GPS is booted up in PC mode you can go to START / COMPUTER to see all the actives drives connected to the PC.

Right click the sd card 1st and select Eject. Then right click the GPS drive and select Eject. When disconnecting this way my GPSs then bootup in the regular GPS operating mode.

That's an interesting method you discovered.
Can you confirm it's still charging after it boots?

There is one more way to use it in operating mode.
Using a Garmin 120v wall charger will allow you to go into operating mode. Hit the power switch to off and it goes into charging mode.

I am still getting use to the difference on the 1450LMT, which I just recently picked up, from my 765Ts and Zumo 665. I just checked this last night and it doesn't work on the 1450LMT. This disconnect method may not work on the newer 4 digit models.

For models that this works on when disconnecting this way the GPS is in normal operating mode. When you press the Off button you get the on screen message that the unit is charging.

That doesn't seem to work with my 2460

The 2460 turns off immediately after it's Ejected. When I turn it back on it starts booting into the normal mode, about the time the normal icons would show up on the desktop, it detects it's connected to the PC and reverts to that mode.

Yes I also found that out on the 1450LMT I recently picked up. It seems the newer models handle this differently than the older models like my 765Ts and Zumo 665 did.
