What do you think is the best Garmin automotive GPS to own today?

I currently have a Garmin Nuvi 855. I am thinking of upgrading and passing the Nuvi 855 on to my wife, (She doesn't know that yet), wish me luck on that one. What do you think is the best Garmin automobile GPS on the market today?

In advanced, I would like to thank you all for your comments.

885

My criteria includes MP3 playback. I use a 885 in my bmw convertible and a 765 in my Suzuki SUV. I like the voice control of the 885 but there are aspects of the 765 that I like better.

I'll give it a try :)

best is subjective

Picking one unit over another is something only you can decide. Your 855 has features no longer found in any of the new units. But then some of the new units have features your 855 will never have.

I will say the 5 inch screen compared to the 4.3 is nice, but then I like the audio out so I can connect it through the car stereo and playback the hours of music or talking books I can load that can't be done with any of the new 4 digit models.

As others indicate, you hear very few complaints about the 765 units any longer and the same goes for the 800 series. I'll be like a lot of users here with the older 3 digit models that have MP3 capability and keep my 885 until it rolls over and dies.

Best Garmin?

I say my 765T is.

Suprised no one's said it...

The iPhone.

Because Garmin Didn't Make it

I'd say no one suggested the iphone since the OP asked which Garmin is the best and it isn't made by Garmin....

I still say the c340 is the best Garmin made, but if I had to buy one today, I'd go with the 2595 LMT.

Ohh....ok.Let me rephrase

Ohh....ok.

Let me rephrase that.

First, buy an iPhone (that Garmin didn't make).

Then, go to the Apple App Store and purchase the Garmin USA App. (that Garmin did make).

Voila! Your iPhone (that Garmin didn't make) is now an automotive GPS....that Garmin did make.

But POI loader won't work for Garmin App

But you won't be able to load or custom POI to Garmin phone apps.

Not only that, if I'm not mistaken, you can't even transfer your already saved favorites from a stand-alone Garmin nuvi into the Garmin app. That would be a HUGE issue for myself personally.

nüvi 760

I don't see any reason to "upgrade" to any other unit.

MP3

Garmin may have dropped the capability to play MP3s on the newer units because of the fact many of the newer cars have USB ports and stereo in plugs. I have a 4gig stick loaded with probably 600 songs plugged into my radio.

Garmin Nüvi 3590LMT

The Garmin Nüvi 3590LMT looks like it is the most expensive and one of the most feature rich Garmin automotive GPS units right now. That may not necessarily make it the best, however.

Best Garmin

I have not had any other, but my 765T has everything that I want. I love it.

765T

Although I use the Frontiers Bluetooth, I own others but the 765 is my favorite, fits the dock on my Fronty too. I think Garmin should stick to making a good GPS and leave the other junk out, more room for map info and less stuff to go wrong.

Whatever is thought to be best now

Will be superseded by the next, latest, greatest and bester than best in a matter of weeks, or months. Or in my case, just days after buying grin

Audible books

One of the biggest reasons I have no use for the newer units is that they aren't capable of playing books from audible.com

Being able to listen to books while on long work-related drives has saved my sanity. In my new car (which I almost never use for work) I can plug the audio out from the GPS into the stereo and listen to the books that way. In the old car (which I use almost exclusively for work) there's no audio input jack but I can use the FM transmitter function to listen to the books through the stereo. It's underpowered and not ideal but it works well enough for me to listen to the books. Depending on where I'm traveling for work I have to use different stations (and in some cases I have to change maybe 3 times during the trip) but it works and makes a 5 hour drive far more bearable.

None of the updated models can handle this crucial (to me) task. I could use my phone or an iPod in the new car to listen to books through the stereo but, in the car I have to use for those long work trips, those devices wouldn't work due to the lack of an audio input in that car. The FM transmitter (despite its shortcomings) is necessary to me.

route planning

I really use route planning on my computer, and then downloading the route to my 855. I keep proven routes that I use infrequently on my computer for potential future use. That is one key feature I would really hate to do without.
