Gas Prices - UP Again

Gas prices are rising again, with little expectation of the increase slowing. Every year or two we seem to have an "event" that triggers a surge - Katrina, the BP blowout., etc. and the price of a barrel of oil jumps. But four years ago, oil was at $140+ per barrel and now it is "only" around $105 - $110.

It seems that each time this occurs, a new plateau of "acceptance" is reached. Remember the $3.00 per US gallon? Now we are grudgingly happy if it doesn't go too far above $4.00!

Like most other commercial products, the price of gas will continue to go up. But we really don't have to "accept" it mad

Why?

Natural gas prices have tanked because of oversupply. Why won't oil prices do the same if there is oversupply? It's just there is no oversupply. I also agree on the speculators.

Then why is West Texas crude and Tar Sands oil being sold to the US discounted by 50% and why is that savings are not beng passed on to consumers?

Just got back from Florida

Paid $3.99 a gallon. Got back home to Cincinnati, it was $3.89. Went up from $3.69 to $3.89 in one week. Whoa!

In parts of DC they are

In parts of DC they are already well over 5.00 a gallon

not true

Gas is selling on the international market. It is the financial speculators that are causing the problem, not supply and demand.

The price of gas will go

The price of gas will go down again as soon as the economy stalls out again. Most people have to go to work, so you have to buy gas, all the other niceties go by the wayside which hurts the overall economy. Since oil is traded on the global market based on the US dollar, prices have to go up as the dollar declines. As debt goes up, and we borrow more money, the dollar declines in value. There is no end in sight, we are not willing to make the tough choices to fix the problem.

How many days at the same

How many days at the same price for us to call it stable?

Gas Prices

In Vancouver BC, Canada our gas prices are only $1.44 per liter. I believe that works out to $6.04 per Us Gallon. We have to live with it..It is set to go up another 2 cents per liter (tax) in April..

My station just went down 4 cents/gal today to $3.86. Most other stations & brands in the area dropped about the same amount.

I don't think that discount is happening. But, it could be.

Where is this story at?

Bottom line

We are exporting gasoline in the South but importing it in the North East, and we are floating on a sea of oil in Cushing Oklahoma and the price of gas keeps going up. Seems crazy, right?

Well the reason is we don't have the refining capacity where it is needed. The oil companies want out of the refining business. The cost to build is between 2 and 4 billion dollars per plant, the environmental regulations are unbelievably complicated and complex and expensive to comply with. In addition the profit margins are miniscule compared to the investment.

In addition the Feds and States require a ridiculous number of different blends of additives for different regions to comply with air quality standards.

It is much more profitable to ship the gasoline that is refined and ship it to a port and export it than to try to find a market that it can be sold in and ship it there.

It is also going to become very profitable to ship oil to New Orleans and sell it overseas than to refine it here in the USA.

This is a problem created by politicians on both sides of the aisle but mostly the Dems that are inordinately influenced by environmental extremists that have their own political agenda.

Well, the Repub's have their own agenda with corporations.

Maybe it's time for both sides to just do what is right, and responsible for all concerned.

Yes, companies have to make profit, but we still have to inhabit the land, and the earth. We need to learn to do it all a better way.

Our practices are damaging the planet we live on. Will that be the legacy we leave the future generations?

I am so tired of the emotional arguments such as we have to do the right thing, we need to leave our children a world better than the one we were born into.

The reality is we either develop our resources and use them to better the economic quality of life for the average person or we will slide into a third world lifestyle. Technology will provide answers if allowed to in a free market without useless, clueless, dimwitted government bureaucrats that could not find their own butts to wipe unless there was a directive explaining what hand to use and how much paper to take off the taxpayer supplied roll.
