Garmin Nuvi 1390LMT and GPX Files

I just got off the phone with Garmin support asking if my Nuvi 1390LMT supports mp3 files. I was asking because of the use of mp3 files in both the GPX-type POI files and the third party voice files for POI alerts.

The tech told me that few Garmin units any longer support mp3 files and therefore custom POI alert voices must be in WAV format.

And also that the GPX files will not function on this unit because of this limitation also.

Has anyone had any success using GPX files on a non-mp3-capable unit? If so what mods did you have to do and what are the specific unit models?

Thanks in advance!

Those units that do not support mp3 can use wav files. All of the poi files from here will work. It does not matter if they are csv or gpx files.

If you look in the faq's you will see how to do it.

I have one of these units and have GPX files installed. I don't recall ever having a problem with any of them nor any of the audio files accompanying the POI files.

Garmin Lied Yet Again.

Let's see. I have a 1300, a 200W, a 255W and Garmin Mobile XT on a LG Incite. All of them work perfectly well with a GPX file with WAV sound. The 2012 lineup should also have no issues.
