Error message when using POI loader

When I download POI to a microSD card for my Garmin, I get the following error message for some files.
“There is a data format error on line (the numbers vary) of file (file location). The data in the file will be written, but no more data can be read from this file.”
I got the error for Civil War POI Richmond Area, Mariott Brand Hotels, and Zaxbys. I replaced the new Zaxbys file with the older file and that eliminated the error.
What is wrong with these files and how do I fix them to eliminate the error?

File Errors

The Zaxby's file page shows 1 unusable record. Looking at it with Excel or Notepad, the first line is a header line. Delete the first line.

Marriott Hotels - USA download page shows 29 unusable records. You'll have to note down the line numbers where POI Loader says there are errors. Then open the file with either Excel or Notepad and check each of those line numbers. Sometimes the actual error is in the line before. Do the same with the Civil War file.

When you "download" the Zaxby's file (http://www.poi-factory.com/node/5418) to your microSD card for your Garmin, what is the Garmin attached to - a PC or a Mac? What program gfave the error message?

I ask this because I just hooked up my 765T to my PC, navigated to the SD card (drive "I:" in Windows Explorer), went to http://www.poi-factory.com/node/5418 and clicked on the "Garmin CSV" link and downloaded the file to a folder called "I:\POI". I then ran POI Loader 2.7.1.0, pointed to "I:\POI" as the "computer" device to be used for the install; pointed to the "I:\Garmin" folder as the destination and loaded 486 custom POIs to the SD card.

To assist you we need more info.

Specifically, what program gave you the error message? PC or Mac?

By the way, it would help us answer questions if you updated your profile so that we know which Garmin device(s) you have.

Garmin nuvi 1690 and a nuvi

Garmin nuvi 1690 and a nuvi 2450LM

I tried this and it worked! Thanks for the help.

Good for you

Glad you got this worked out.

What is interesting is that I had no problem with the Zaxby's file no matter how I tried it. The file has a "header" line and I loaded it to my SD card, to my 765T and to my computer.

SO - what would be different??????

I am running XP Pro SP3 and POI Loader 2.7.1.0.

If you did not do this when you last reported, please fire up POI Loader and left click on the Icon at the very top left of the dialog box and then click on 'About POI Loader".

Thanks

Glad That Worked For You

Glad that worked. Those files look orphaned. They haven't been updated in a while. As a file maintainer, if I uploaded a file that then displayed "xx unusable records" I would fix my problem and then re-upload a clean file.
