First Post - Modifying existing GPX files

Before you ask, I did read MANY of the FAQ's, the Beginner Lessons and searched but evidently I'm not using the correct term. I downloaded and put onto my Garmin 2595 a couple of the smaller POIs for practice. They are both ESCAPEES campground locations. One was a CSV and the other a GPX file type. My question is, none of the locations actually had the name ESCAPEES in the field name which I would prefer so it is easier to search for them.

MY Question - I know how to modify the CSV file to add the word SKP or ESCAPEES but is there a way for me to modify the GPX file?

Thanks for your help.

both are text files

Both files are simple text files, so you can edit them with any text editor. CSV files are simpler, and can be imported into and exported from Excel or free spread sheet programs like Libre Office, so many people use them, but any text editor should work. gpx files are also text files, but are much more complex (actually written in a form of XML) but could be edited for what you describe pretty easily as well. And, of course, there are custom programs that people have created to edit these files also. Since they are not really needed. I don't use them and can't recommend any.

I Use Notepad

I use Notepad for this very thing.

Open file in Notepad, click edit, click replace, enter find text (I usually include space or comma if it follows the find text), enter replace text (include space or comma if used in find text).

This process works well for csv and gxp files.

I'm confused

If you have both the CSV and GPX version of the same file, why do you need both. For most maintainers the information in the two versions is exactly the same. The GPX version does allow phone numbers to be dialed from the GPS if you paired a phone.

If you read the FAQs on loading POI you should know how to set up categories by using folders. If you have a subfolder labeled RV Parks or something similar, then you can group all the different POI lists you want into that folder. Then naming just the POI file will allow you to pick the particular group you want without having to modify every entry in the file.

One more thing, if you modify the maintainer's file, it will be more difficult to report problems as your file doesn't match theirs.
