I too updated my 2460LMT yesterday and show the same results as you. I found it strange the firmware has such an odd # of 2.89.

I'm curious to see what the changes were from 2.70 to 2.89. I'm unable to find any information, hopefully someone can provide some details.

.

I agreed that it's an odd version #. Maybe they forgot to name it correctly

Emailed Garmin For Changelog

I agree, took the Nuvi outside on battery power and let it boot, after map loaded the satellites were at 5 bars and ready to navigate.

I am still unable to find what the changes were from 2.70 to 2.89, I emailed Garmin this morning requesting the information, as soon as I receive reply I will post with the information.

Traffic delay

"Improved the delay time in Traffic Map drawing" - Only worthy improvement as far as I can see.

Traffic Delay Is Not In Firmware

The changes you describe are part of the software upgrade from 2.50 to 2.70, its not the firmware.

The firmware upgrade was from 2.70 to 2.89, those are the changes we are looking for.

Response From Garmin

This is the message I received from Garmin regarding my request of what changes were made form Firmware ver 2.70 to 2.89.

"Thank you for contacting Garmin International. I apologize for the inconvenience, and I am happy to assist you with your anomaly.

The only way to tell what changes have been added is to run the webupdater, and during the process after it notifies you of the version that you are updating to. It will then reveal a window that states what changes have been implemented for you.
Please advise for further assistance"

Well the fact is WebUpdater never indicated there was a Firmware upgrade, only software from 2.50 to 2.70. It automatically updated the firmware to 2.89.

There was no option to select only the Software upgrade or a firmware upgrade. To test I used Webupdater and reinstalled the updates, there was NO message box indicating what firmware changes were made, only the software changes indicated below:

Improved the delay time in Traffic Map drawing
Default to AZERTY keyboard in Belgian locale
Updated to comply with France Safety Camera decree
Added Support for Yandex Traffic Service in Russia
Support for RDS based live Parking information update
Fixed issues with alerts when unit is in charging mode
Routing improvements with Historic Traffic
Improvements in the ASR feature with substitute strings for commands
Added display exit name along with the exit number
Improved several Map drawing features
Fixed some issues with GPX importing
Fixed some issues in Custom Avoidances feature
Several other cosmetic improvements added in UI

The only assumption I can make of this is that within the changelog, both the firmware and software changes are listed and not separating the two.

Aircraft

I wonder if they have as many issues with their aircraft GPS units as with automotive. Kind of scary when you think about it....

Non Event

This upgrade appears to have gone quite well or people would be carping about it. I think Garmin reversed its recent trend on this one.

Thanks for letting us know!

Thanks for letting us know! It is about time they updated the 24xx models, generally solid product but definitely some glitches. Here is hoping that this makes for a better experience overall.

Replied To Garmins Email

I did reply to Brandon H. from Garmin thanking him but I also asked him to confirm if the changelog did contain the changes to both the software & firmware, and if he could advise just what the firmware changes were. I'll wait for his reply.

Everything seems to work normally, I haven't done a long trip yet. I am very pleased on how quickly it now obtains satellites. Right after map loads the ready to navigate is available. Has anybody else experienced improvements in other features?

Received Confirmation From Garmin

I received a reply from Brandon at Garmin support to my question if the changelog combined the firmware and software updates. He states that is the case.

The software and firmware are both in the same. I do apologize but there is not a way to be able to tell which firmware updates have been included for it is done whenever the Webupdater is ran to update the system software on the device.
Please advise for further assistance.

I can't recall this happening in past updates on any of my Nuvi's, I don't like this concept. In most cases, you can no longer download an older version of firmware if the latest one has bugs in it. You can only install a firmware upgrade through WebUpdater. Some individuals will not download newer firmware until they've determined it is working properly.

In the case of the 2460LMT, the firmware was installed without the owners knowledge believing they were downloading software updates only.

Fortunately everything turned out well this time but that may not be the case in the future. I wonder if this policy was just for the 2460 or will occur with all the newer units as well.

We can now put the mystery to rest.

I took my update using the MyGarmin dashboard and all it said was that there was Software available, nothing else to indicate what I was going to get.

My advice is to write down what your unit has installed before taking any updates just in case you later have problems with the unit and be able to explain to them what has changed.

Did the update and so far,

Did the update and so far, so good. No problems.

Take Care with 2460 LMT Update

I can confirm update includes the 2.70 to 2.89 firmware change. However make certain to use the Windows "Safe to Remove Device" procedure to avoid corrupting the download/install files.

I had to contact Garmin Support to recover from a dead unit. They had the remedy and helped to safely recover the 2.70 SW update.

I was starting to sweat until I saw the Garmin Logo appear again.
