Streetpilot c340 and POI files on a SD card

I have the c340 and the Nuvi 50LM. I have both downloaded files from here to use as well as created my own personal ones.

I did some search on the old c340 only to find out you can not load poi files to a SD card. At least this is what was stated under the faq.

I decided to find out for myself. I plugged the SD card into a usb reader and copied my latest poi.gpi file to the SD card. Placed the card in my c340 and guest what? All the poi files were there. (myloactions, custom POI) It seems to work just fine for me. My poi files were created using ver 2.7 poi loader. If you are a current user of the streetpilot c340 give it a try. It can't hurt.

clarification

I used the Garmin loader, and put the files on the root of my scanbdisk, is there anyway to verify that the POI were loaded? I loaded the wifi, the redlight and one other one I can not remember right now. I needed to put them on the disk because when I tried to load them directly I got a not enough room message.

Thanks
I did look in manual but very little info on POI's

Need a different folder

The structure of the SD card needs to match the unit. POI should be in the \Garmin\poi folder and not the root. POI Loader will create the proper folder structure, but 2.7.0 writes the wrong extension to the file on the card. It writes .poi and it needs to be .gpi.

I also use poi loader ver

I also use poi loader ver 2.7 . But when I save to a computer folder its writes the correct extension. Create a folder on your desktop and point the loader to save your file there. Then just copy and paste to the card.

When I do this and insert the card into the c340 the files show up OK. Hope this helps.

Not working for me

I've been tinkering with this, however I am unable to get the POIs to load. Are you placing the poi.gpi into a folder on the SD card? Currently on my SD card I have a folder named "Garmin" with a map file named "gmappsupp.img"

You need another folder under Garmin called poi. I don't think it's case sensitive as I have units with both an upper case POI folder and one that is poi in lower case.

With the release of POI Loader 2.7.1, try saving it to the SD card with the new program. It will create the proper file structure for the file.

Ok, I currently have \Garmin\POI\poi.gpi on my SD card after using POI loader 2.7.1 it will install successfully onto the card. When I put the card back into the GPS, the map is loaded however the Custom POIs are not. I have restarted the GPS and still no luck.

Trying again tomorrow.

Still can't figure this out, and it is getting late. Need to get some sleep and try again tomorrow.

I have an old C330 and tried

I have an old C330 and tried to read the POIs from the SD card and they do not come up. Perhaps it doesn't work for the C330. Has anyone tried this with a C330?
