Finding POI by name vs by category

I noticed that on my Nuvi 765t (and I'm sure not only on this model), searching by category is very fast, but searching by name takes forever. That is, if I try to find the nearby ski resort by tying its name, it takes about 2 minutes, but if I navigate by categories, it's found in seconds. Wondering, is this by design, or maybe some indexing is broken in the unit and could be fixed?

.

Every nuvi I've owned (680,760,1490) has behaved as you described. Number of nearby POIs and distance to target POI contribute to longer search times. For example, finding a POI in a large metro such as downtown Chicago vs a POI in a smaller community e.g. Evanston. If the POI you're searching for is farther awa, using the "Near" option will reduce search time.

Number of records?

I don't know for sure, but if you are simply searching by the name of a location, I would think the unit has to scan the entire database of points stored in it, rather than just pulling a predefined list of locations under a specific category.
