when I plan a motorcycle trip I use small state highways and county roads...pretty easy to distinguish with GM.
"You can't get there from here"
start
Here's a place to start for Wisconsin:

Anytime you have a 50-50 chance of getting something right, there's a 90% probability you'll get it wrong.

Avoiding Highways
when I plan a motorcycle trip I use small state highways and county roads...pretty easy to distinguish with GM.
It is also worth noting that under "Get directions" in Google Maps if you click the "Show options" link there is a checkbox for "Avoid highways". I use that feature (and the "Avoid tolls" option) quite a bit. My TomTom also has similar route planning options.
Paper Maps are excellent
Two lane roads are easy to pick out on a paper map, which are available by mail from each state. They are much better than the free AAA maps. I also prefer state & county highways for our trips.

Each road is like a box of chocolates.
