anyone know how to get rid of the best western adds on a garmin

paid subscription

There are 2 ways to eliminate the ads. One is to uncheck traffic while the other is to get a paid subscription.

Lifetime Ads

They certainly are! It's the one thing I really dislike about this nuvi 1350T. Mine has lifetime traffic. Unfortunately that must also mean lifetime ads.

.

As suggested, feel free to buy the service to avoid the ads.

On the odd occasion seeing one, I've never found them intrusive. Big deal. Free is not, and has never been, 'free'.

Ads

If you click on the ads, then you will get more.

Here's how to get rid of the ads

This will get rid of the ads but also the traffic info.

Tools > Settings > Traffic
Uncheck "Enable Traffic"

Annoying ads

I can live with ads in my $200 2460LMT and don’t find them very annoying but does anyone know how to get rid of the ads on my $3K plasma TV?

DVR's work wonders for that!

.

Oh yea, just throw more money at the problem... until they put ads on the DVR.

I'll get right on this! rolleyes

I use Ad Block Plus, and NoScript for FF.
I don't watch TV, as I refuse to pay to watch adverts.

I win, with money in pocket to boot.

If you live in BC you don't get ads. Don't know about the rest of Canada though. I'm not suggesting you move up here just to avoid the ads though.laugh out loud

I'm glad my 3490 and 3790

I'm glad my 3490 and 3790 don't have ads.

That's cause

That's cause you cheaped out and didn't get Traffic with it. You should get that, and the Maps. Then you will have a 3790LMT and 3490LMT and you can be just like the rest of us and sit here complaining laugh out loud

Adds

I have the 3790LMT and the adds don't bother me. They only appear when I am stop and it is only for a Best Western Hotel. I can live with that.

Depends on the OS these use, but you might be able to replace the hosts file. I've done that on my Mac, PC and Android phone and see no ads.

.

There is no Hosts file on the GPS, never was.

Huh?

You Can't Eliminate Ads

I am not aware of any Garmin that has host files.

Unless you disable Traffic,
THE ADS CANNOT BE REMOVED WITHOUT BUYING A PREMIUM SUBSCRIPTION for NAVTEQ.

The ads are stored on the GPS in one of two locations depending on your nuvi model.

1- Newer Units
\.system\DDB\RDS_LBA.ddb

2- Older Units
\Garmin\POI\DDB\RDS_LBA.ddb

It is safe to delete the entire folder and the LBA.ddb file, however, it is pointless, since once the Traffic receiver is activated again the ads will ALWAYS reappear, something you cannot prevent.

Try it, backup up the folder to your PC, then delete the folder and file. Without plugging the Traffic receiver in and you can play around with your GPS, check if folder has come back (it hasn't)
Then plug the traffic receiver in and take a ride, the ads will reappear again and so will the folder with the file.

Nuvi 2460LMT 2 Units

Throw it away..

Get a unit without traffic. I had a 1490T and personally feel the traffic was useless and got tired of the ads. Besides the cord is three times bigger than one without traffic. Traffic is just another Garmin gimmick to charge more. I don't need Garmin to tell me I am in a traffic jam....I already know it.

Doesn't it route you around

Doesn't it route you around traffic jams by suggesting alternate routes? I've found the best tool is to plan ahead-I check Google Maps before I leave, see if there are traffic tie ups, and avoid areas if I can.

There is an "Avoid" button when you look at a Traffic On Route screen, but anytime I've ever touched it, it will open a window that says "route already optimized for traffic" or something like that.

I have very mixed feelings about the accuracy and usefulness of Garmin's traffic feature. Much more accurate is Google Maps traffic or MapQuest (if you are in a phone coverage area).

my 2 ¢

On a recent trip to Miami it routed me from the hotel in downtown Miami to my brother's house one way on late Friday afternoon and an entirely different way on Sunday morning.

Just remember in order for it to work the unit has to be set to faster route, shortest distance I believe will ignore the traffic.

Garmin 38 - Magellan Gold - Garmin Yellow eTrex - Nuvi 260 - Nuvi 2460LMT - Google Nexus 7 - Toyota Entune NAV

Just used it to get through DC at rush hour last week

Spent some quality time sitting at lights off the freeway, instead of in bumper to bumper. Not sure I saved any major time on these alt routes as the unit doesn't seem to factor in the stop and go time involved with the added traffic lights on the alternate routing. But it did seem to be a tad less frustrating and only added about 40 minutes to my total travel time estimate when I got through the city.

I don't really notice the ads mentioned by OP as I have a special ignore function in my head to help me get by day to day without obsessing over the little things.

Find the "OFF" button and press it!

I do not find them that

I do not find them that annoying but we are stuck with them unless you turn traffic off as suggested.

John B - Garmin 765T

Not a great feature

So far I have never tried to avoid a traffic issue shown on my garmin 1490T. The adds disappear in a few seconds. I am more upset at the long pauses between selecting a destination and given the first direction where to turn onto a two way street. Packed and ready to go out of a downtown motel parking lot and not knowing if I need to turn left or right.

here is ONE way to get rid of TV Ads

on your TV remote control,
press power button once, then, wait for three minute, press power button to turn TV on. This should solve the problem. If not, repeat until it works.
