3490LMT Latest Firmware

Well I pulled the trigger tonight and bought the 3490LMT and of course I'm in the charge up stage right now before I really get into it but from what I can tell so far is that the unit shipped with firmware version 2.60. Does anyone know what the latest version is and if there are release notes indicating the changes?

PS: The manual does not state the maximum capaicty for a microSDHC memory card. Does anyone know it's limitation?

Thanks in advance!

Updates

I'm not sure what the latest firmware is, but I would use Webupdater and it will tell you and load any updates.

As far as the MicroSD, the only info I could find said that as long as you had the latest firmware, there really wasn't a limit to the size. I have used an 8GB on my 2450. Unless you are going to be traveling all over the world and load up thousands of POI files or store tons of pictures, I can't imagine you would need anything bigger than that.

3490 LMT

I own one and tried 32GB microSDHC and it work. And 32G microSDHC is the most you could buy for now.

But why you need that much space for a GPS. It not even support MP3.

8GB's of internal memory and no MP3 support

With 8GB's of internal memory and no MP3 support you will probably have no use for an SD card unless it would be for European maps or something similar in size. Custom POI file even with 100's of thousands of POI's is just a few MB's so not needed for that.

You can obtain the change information by using the Web Updater program. It will provide the change history BEFORE you choose to proceed with the update. If you do not see any benefit then simply cancel and your original unit software will remain intact.

Latest Firmware

The latest firmware is 3.60. You need to use the Garmin Webupdater tool from the Garmin website. The tool shows the release notes prior to the update...

New LMT3490 and another question

Oh hi,

I went to download load Garmin's red light camera poi...Cyclops. After having my credit card charged 8.95 it said my device wasn't supported. In contacting Garmin by email they refunded my money but no explanation why they aren't supported. Any ideas?

(I plan to contribute to the red light camera fund on this site smile

Making progress w/the new unit

I must have missed those release notes. Hopefully I can find them posted someplace else. Thanks.

As for setting up the 3490LMT vs. the old 765T, I've noticed the following:

*Does not work with Mapsource but will work with Basecamp
*POI Loader v.2.54 does not recognize the 3490LMT but v.2.70 does

Updates as of 12/30/11:

*Latest Firmware is v.3.60
*Latest Maps are 2012.30

One question remains though. In the 765T, I could go to Extras and see the uploaded Red Light/Speed Cameras list. In this unit, there is no place to see if they are loaded. I know they worked because the default tone went off when approaching the intersections with cameras. Is there a menu someplace to call them up? After determinging that, I guess I have to figure out the WAV vs. MP3 issue for the alerts although I don't mind the tone.

Thanks everybody.

At the risk of repeating myself and getting busted by Speed2, You need to put SOX on.

While some units can load and play MP3 files, all the newer NUVI units can only play WAV alert sound files. WAV files require a sound conversion program called SOX. SOX.exe can be downloaded from http://rapidshare.com:80/files/139638423/sox.zip. Unzip the folder containing the program SOX.exe. Select the SOX.exe file and right click and select COPY. If you load and use SOX.exe, any unit can use and play WAV alert sound files NOTE: You only need to load SOX once.

That's right. I forgot that was mentioned before and found the FAQ on it thanks. Just need to figure out why I can't see the .csv listing on the unit itself unless of course it's just not possible on the 3490LMT.

@preroll

Are you sending the poi file from version 2.7.0 to internal memory or to a SD card?

@ Preroll

When you touch extras then touch custom pois last.Don't you see the list of your custom pois?

Internal memory. Don't have a card installed yet.

There isn't an 'Extras' option on the 3490LMT as far as I can tell. I've gone through every menu.

Extras does not exist on the 3490LMT. Extras existed on my 765T however. The Where To option only leads to "Go Home/Address/Restaurants/Gas Stations/Shopping/Add Shortcut". I've checked every menu under setting as well but don't think there's a way to see the loaded POI's.
