TomTom Power Adapter with Garmin doesn't work right?

So I broke the USB plug off the end of my Garmin power cord (long story.) I have been using an old cell phone charger to power my Nuvi, but the problem with that is that is thinks its plugged into a computer. It will eventually display the map and let me navigate, but every time I turn the car off and on, it restarts and I have to wait for it to realize its not actually hooked up to a computer before I can use it.
I just bought a TomTom Universal car charger from Target, this one to be exact http://www.tomtom.com/en_us/products/accessories/chargers-co..., and it is acting the same was that the cell phone charger does. I plug it in and the little computer icon comes up, with the loading bar. The adapter that came with the Garmin never did that.
Do I have to break down and buy one of these? https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=63951...? Was trying to save a few bucks

Yes - I had the same issue a couple of weeks ago trying to use a TomTom car charger with my Garming GPS. I bought a Garmin car charger from Best Buy ($30) and everything is back to normal now.

Thanks I just ordered one on Amazon for $15, and $3.99 one day shipping, should have it in time for my 500 Mile drive on Thur. I know how to get where Im going but I still like using the GPS.
