New "prompted" route setting: Nuvi 3700T

Prompted route setting has been on the 3700 models for a long time, via a firmware update (nothing to do with maps).

When you have the Nuvi set for Prompted and enter a destination 3 routes will be calculated (Faster, Shortest, Less Fuel) and you can pick the one you want to use.

Set your Nuvi on Prompted and then enter a destination. On the map screen with the GO button watch and you should see a Blue route appear, followed by a Green Route and then a Yellow Route. Since these may all be the same route you can use the Down Arrow on the left hand side of the screen to see each colored route.

Decide which one you want to use and press GO. You have to be on the Blue route screen to use the Blue route, the Green route screen to use it, etc.

I should have mentioned that when you first enter your destination you get an ordinary GO screen. To see the 3 prompted routes, press GO on the original screen and the prompted GO screen will be presented. Remember to use the down arrow to see each route on a separate map screen and to make your selection.

Also this feature is available on a lot/most of the newer Nuvi models as well as 1690/95 and possibly other 1xxx models.

@t923347: With FW 5.70 a Recalculate option was added when you select a route via Where To, Routes.

When you select Recalculate, you're taken to a Route Preferences screen where you can then choose between fastest, shortest, etc.

Does this Recalculate also show up when you select Where Too and a custom or built in POI, or an address to navigate to? Or does it just show up when navigating Routes?

I don't have this model but I keep my non technical friend up on what his 1300 will do.

@bear007, recalculate only applies to stored routes. Your friend with the 1300 will see it (if they use stored routes) when they upgrade to the 5.70 firmware.

Not sure if this is the same as "Prompted Routing" which is available whenever you ask the Nuvi to calculate a route for you.

No, it's not quite the same - there is no map display of the three possible routes (fastest, shortest, less fuel) and time estimates. Prompted routing works on a destination. The 1xxx recalculate works on an existing stored route and lets you choose one of the three options without knowing the time estimates.
