2455LMT Last Parking Spot

I recently decided to buy a replacement GPS for my out-of-date 680. I needed a new charger and updated maps, and figured that it would be more cost-effective to simply buy a brand new unit and give the 680 to my son. I bought the 2455LMT, and I'm re-adjusting my thinking to the new menus. Perhaps someone can help me with two questions...

The 680 had a option to mute the annoying (to me) keyboard tones (beeps) when making selections. I cannot find such an option on the 2455. It seems it only mutes ALL audio. Is this correct?

Second, I need help figuring out how the "Last Parking Spot" works. The very limited instructions say that the GPS will remember the location at the time the unit is removed from it's cradle with the power on, but it doesn't seem to work for me. The cradle is just a little plastic bracket gripping the lower and upper edges of the GPS; there is no electrical connection. How does the GPS "know" whether or not it is clipped to the bracket, or not? I know I must be missing something simple, but the ah-ha moment hasn't hit me yet.

Thanks...

It sounds like you're studying the QuickGuide that came with the nuvi. What you need to view and save to your computer is the 75-ish-page Owners Manual that contains much more info and instructions:

I should have mentioned that I did download the complete Owners Manual, and it (page 42) is where I noted how it "should" work, but I'm baffled. It says only:

Finding Your Last Parking Spot

When you remove your device from the vehicle
mount while the device is on, your current
location is saved as a parking spot.
Select Apps > Last Spot.

But when I select Last Spot, nothing is there. Any other thoughts?

I'm guessing...

I'm guessing but I think one has to have a cradle that has an attached power cord and you are in a situation where the power is still coming from the plug into the auto at the time you remove the Nuvi.

When I turn off my ignition, my 765T says I have 30 seconds in which to decide whether or not to leave the Nuvi on (and It would then go on battery only power).

How do you power the 2455 while driving?

I'm guessing that your guess

I'm guessing that your guess is right, too.

My 680 had a powered cradle, and therefore when you popped the GPS out of the cradle it lost power, with the same 30 second warning that it was going to shut down. The 2455 does not have a powered cradle. It only has a bracket with the usual ball mount. Power is (direct) via the mini USB port.

The "Detailed" Owners Manual is for the 24xx-25xx series, including the 2455 which I have. The illustrations clearly show the same (unpowered)style of bracket that came with the unit. Very confusing!

The cradle is NOT the problem

I've made some further discoveries regarding the 2455 cradle. I entered the diagnostic menus, and found that there is an entry that monitors whether or not the GPS is physically 'mounted' or not. This field correctly changes from "No Mount" to "Garmin Mount" as I insert the bottom of the GPS into lower portion of the mounting bracket. Pop it out, and the diagnostic screen toggles back to "No Mount". Upon further examination I discovered there is a tiny magnet installed near the bottom of the mounting bracket, which 'obviously' operates a mag switch inside the GPS.

This was a great find, so now I know that the GPS is 'aware' of being mounted or not, but I still can't get it to automatically save the 'Last Parking Spot'. I've tried with vehicle power, and without, but haven't figured out the correct sequence yet. Anyone else??

works on 2495LMT

I have a 2495LMT and did the following:
1. Disconnected the unit from the bracket and confirmed that the last spot was correct.

2. Removed the bracket from the car and reconnected the unit to it.

3. Walked a couple of blocks, removed the unit from the bracket and confirmed that the last spot had been updated to the current location.

I have no idea why your unit would not update the location. I do know that several updates have been applied to my unit so I assume that the series is still buggy.

Still not working...

At first I was excited to see that there was a recent software update for my 2455, so I quickly downloaded it in hopes that it would "cure" my Last Parking Spot issue, but it didn't. I have tried endless ways at seeing if it would save the location after removing the GPS from the mount (while turned on), but nothing. I tried using only the internal battery power, and by plugging in the USB power cord, still nothing. No "Last Spot". The error message displayed is something like "Last Parking Spot will only be saved after removing the GPS from the mount", or something like that. And yet, the diagnostic page clearly recognizes whether the GPS is "mounted"or not. Hopefully another software revision will fix this, as I'm at a loss right now as to why it doesn't work as it should.

Last Parking Spot

We had the same problem w/ our 2455 and went thru the same testing processes. Finally contacted Garmin Support. After the standard response (check for updates, hard reset) that didn't work, they sent us a new mount. Looked like exactly the same one as the one delivered w/ the unit...but it worked! Now as soon as the unit is removed from the mount, the Last Parking Spot is saved.

Mount?

I just bought a 2455LM at Sam's for a grandson. It does not contain a mount that has a cable integral to it. Wonder what my grandson will have to do?

2595LMT Last Spot

I am having problems with the mount on my 2595LMT not saving last parking spot. How do you access the diagnostics screen so I can check if the mount is being detected?

Thanks

Diagnostic page(s)

The first thing that I would check, is the mount itself. Unsnap the mount from the ball joint and look at the bottom of the mount, where you should see a tiny silver-coloured magnet. This is what is being sensed by a magnetic switch inside the GPS.

To access the diagnostic pages, power up the GPS (battery operation is fine). When the main menu appears, press on the battery icon for 5-10 seconds, and voila... the first page has an entry for "Mount Type". The value should toggle between "No Mount" and "Garmin Mount" as you clip the GPS in and out of the mount (as mine does). Press Exit to return to normal operation.

...

Off-topic but how does it power itself in the car if there's no cradle?

Via the USB port

And I assume it has a car adapter on the other end...?

Partial success

The Last Parking Spot function partially works, but not in a way I was hoping for. If I first select a destination, and begin to 'Go' to it (Navigate mode), then after I stop somewhere (anywhere) along the way and pop the GPS out of the mount (while still powered on), then the location is saved, and it can be recalled by the Last Parking Spot app.

Note, that it will ONLY work while in Navigation mode. If I just want to use Map mode, it doesn't save the 'Parking Spot', which is a mode I use quite frequently. There are plenty of destinations that I am already quite familiar with, so don't need to program a route to get there, but it would be nice to remember where I parked the blinkin' car! LOL!

.

Use "Where Am I", and then Save your coords from that spot.

I thought about that too..

I thought about that too, but it requires quite a few button pushes, including 'giving it a name', etc. I was really hoping that it would work 'as advertised' by popping the GPS from the mount and jumping out of the car. I guess I'm getting lazy, but I thought it would still be a good feature to have, if it worked! Thanks though for the suggestion.

That feature works great on my 295w. It is fascinating that when I return to my truck the distance will count down to zero feet...
When I replace my 1490, the last parking spot feature will be a "must have."
