Correct Directory Structure for SD Card?

I am going to install the large JCV file onto my micro sd card in my Garmin 1450LMT...Is this the correct directory structure?

Garmin\JCV

Do I then erase or rename the original small file on the GPS unit itself?

Yes

Though it's better to back the old file up somewhere then just outright erasing it forever. As for the SD card, you need a GARMIN directory in root, then a JCV (and if desired, POI) folder in that.

LTCSZ you are correct. I

LTCSZ you are correct.

I have done the same on my 1490, using the full JCV file Garmin made available for download.

You can also add other maps to the SD card, such as described in another thread here for using the Garmin update feature to get a full map rather than a truncated one they provide for those GPS's with small inernal memory; however the SD card directory structure and file name requirements may be different depending on which specific model Garmin you have.

same as your nuvi structure

I use what you describe on my 885t and 765t but I have seen reports of other file structures on nuvis. I believe you need to put the same directory/folder structure on the SD card as is used by your nuvi. If it is Garmin/JCV/file on the nuvi, that is what goes on the SD card.

Jim

Thanks

Thanks for the advice...I'm off to format my card and copy the file!

...

Doesn't that model have a hidden .System folder?

Michael (Nuvi 2639LMT)

Yes but not on the SD card

The JCV file on my 1450 is in a hidden directory on the unit itself but the large JCV file goes in \Garmin\JCV on the SD card.
