How to Red Banner 1690

My Nuvi 650 died, but I had a poi factory file for red lights which flashed the banner at the top of the screen red.
My replacement is a nuvi 1690. I updated it POI over the weekend. The audio alert works fine but the banner does not flash red. How can I make it flash red for alerts? Thanks.

The banner doesn't change

The banner doesn't change color in the 1xxx series. All you will get is a balloon pop up showing the alert, along with the sound if you added one.

This cannot be changed. Sorry.

P.S. Unless you want spam coming into your email, change your username.

Contact Miss POI or JM via their contact tab with your new user name. It saves having to re-register and you loosing credits for posting. Changing the name on an account is something only the site masters can perform.

Thanks. How did my email get

Thanks. How did my email get to be my username. I screwed up somewhere.

BTW, are there models where the banner does change color?

To the best of my knowledge,

To the best of my knowledge, there's nothing either currently produced or will be produced in the near future (i.e. the 2012 line up) that changes the banner bar's color like that. This I believe is due to Garmin completely rewriting the firmware in 2009.

I thought I would miss not having cross streets in the banner bar, and thought I would miss not having the bar change red. Both are features in my 200W and I don't miss them as much as I thought I might have. The names of upcoming streets appear on the map which offsets the lack of cross street information in the banner bar. I find I listen for the alerts rather than look for them.

While I understand your disappointment, having spent some time with the 1300LM rather than my 200W, I find that the gains have offset the losses. Look at what you gained in going with the 1690 versus what you have lost. Looking at it, I think you've lost two or three features from the 660 in exchange for lane assist, junction view, and the speed limit indicator, as well as one feature I don't have: automatic routing for multiple destinations.

I think in a month you'll adjust. I did.

Hmmm

I don't think I understand the question. What banner?

I have a 1350 and when I approach a redlight camera intersection I get a black background message box. If I am exceeding the speed limit, the message box has a red background which will change to black if I reduce my speed. Is this the banner you are speaking of?

On older units like the 660

On older units like the 660 and 200W the green bar with the street and direction information at the top of the screen would change to red when a proximity alert was triggered, e.g. red light cameras, speed cameras, and rest areas.

Thanks for the info

Unless one has used several models and is aware of the differences, it is easy to assume most units display information in a similar fashion. Any time I have seen comparisons those sites never describe how displayed information might differ; simply A device has a feature that B device does not.

How to Red Banner 1690

My gps 855 dispays the camera alert in Red, but, my 3790 does not. My 855 also does not dispaly the over the speed limit in Red, but, my 3790 does. It looks like Garmin switch the colors positions.

Two different units with different features. The red banner went bye-bye with the X5 versions. My 885 displays camera alerts in a black box if I'm below the trigger speed, red if I'm above the speed. RLC are always in the black box.

The speed limit signs changing colors is only on some of the newest units. The 885 has always displayed the speed limit sign, and it's often incorrect as speed limits change without the map being updated. It's a good gauge, but i wouldn't use it as a defense against a speeding ticket.

Compass direction on 1690

I have Garmin 350 that show the compass. How do I turn it on 1690?

I've given up on my 1690.

I've given up on my 1690. Because it's navigation function is really awful. I can't tell you the number of times it directs me to drive in a round about way rather than the most direct way. And I've tried all the customization settings.
