Help! (765t won't restart after 2012.30 map update)

I downloaded the 2012.30 map last night. Took awhile but it downloaded. Anyway, when I try to shut off the 765t, I have to hold the shut off button before it shuts down. Now it is shut down but won't restart. Is there anything that I can do?

Wait a minute

My dēzl™ 560LMT does this occasionally, and I find that if I simply was a half-minute or so it will then work fine.

Hold on button

Try sliding the on button and holding it for a minute or two then let it go, if it doesn't come on after letting it go try again to turn it on.
That sometimes helped when my 750 wouldn't turn on.

There is no reset switch on your Nuvi.

As posted by others, try hooking it up in your vehicle and see if that brings it back to life. If not hold the power switch as directed above for AT LEAST 2 MINUTES.

I've had a number of Nuvi's lock up like this, patience is usually the best approach.

It worked

Thanks to all of you, I hooked my Nuvi up to the car adapter and it turned on and is now working.

Thanks from me too! my 765T

Thanks from me too! my 765T would not turn on today when connected to the car power adapter nor when connected to the USB cable on my PC. I held the power button and its BACK TO LIFE! Thanks!

Battery?

I wonder if the battery could be starting to go. I got my 765T in March 2010 and I am noticing it does not last as long on a charge as it used to. I have allowed it to run down a few times in order to "recalibrate" but it does not last as long as it used to. I figure another year and I will probably wind up replacing the battery with a new one. I love the 765T and hope to keep it quite a while longer (especially since I have lifetime maps at $79.95 on it).

One other note, I had a lot of issues with the Bluetooth on the 765T in conjunction with my old Motorola V360 phone (which worked great with my older Garmin C550). It would take a minute or so to sync up and would drop out occasionally. Back in October I received an iPhone 4S as an early Christmas present and I have found the 765T Bluetooth works great with the 765T. It syncs up quickly and has not dropped the connection. Apple says the Bluetooth is "4.0" on the 4S not 2.1 like older devices. I have not not dug into the Bluetooth specs to see what the difference is but the 765T is much happier communicating with the iPhone than the Motorola.

never worked out well with bluetooth, so I gave up, and don't answer the phone while driving (California), kind of nice. Never really saw a reason to talk to anyone on the phone while driving in the first place. I turn on the classical music station, and enjoy once again the experience of driving. You'd be surprised what classical music does to deter "road rage.”
