compatibility of new traffic receivers

Someone posted a question regarding using new traffic receivers on old units. Since I had the equipment on hand, I thought I'd try an experiment.

The 2012 model Nuvi 2495LMT is equipped with a GTM26 traffic receiver which is advertised as providing "3D Traffic" and can handle the to-be-released GTM60 receiver which is advertised as providing "Digital 3D Traffic". The Nuvi 265T is equipped with a GTM25 traffic receiver which is advertised as providing "lifetime traffic".

When I connect the new generation GTM26 traffic receiver to the old generation Nuvi 265T, the unit appears to operate normally. When I connect the old generation GTM25 traffic receiver to the new generation Nuvi 2495LMT, the unit operates as if a power cord without a traffic receiver is attached.

No conclusions here, I just thought someone else might be curious.

Looks like the new GTM is backward compatible. The older GTM is not forward compatible. Its like some software programs. They will work with new Operating system like Win Vista and Win 7 but won't work with older OS like Win 95 or XP Home.

Traffic Receivers

That'sgood to know. I have the MSN receiver on my 885t and they stop service in January.

I've got to figure out what I want to plug into the 885 in its place.
