Washington Times Editorial: The speed-camera lie

The speed-camera lie
http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2011/nov/8/the-speed-cam...

"Traditional law-enforcement duties are best performed by men, not machines. This is the case in Maryland, where speed cameras continue to pronounce the innocent guilty, regardless of mounting evidence that the measuring devices are faulty."

While there is nothing particularly new, this seems to be another instance of "automated" justice. Over the past several years there have been numerous laws passed to unfairly enforce so-called "intellectual property" rights in much the same manner.

"Early on, photographic evidence resulted in acquittals, but judges in the Old Line State are now taking a hard line against factual challenges." (emphasis added)

"In a May 24 letter, Mr. Warrington explained his interest in addressing reliability problems was not ensuring justice but “how we can optimize the productivity of our camera."(emphasis added)

Excellent Article

As a Marylnd Resident (Montgomery County) I love seeing evidence on how bad this system is. Problem is, too much money is changing hands, and that means it is hard to beat, PERIOD

As a Montgomery County

As a Montgomery County resident too, what we need is the kind of expose (Post, Gazette, TV?) which shows how the cameras have been utilized for revenue rather than safety such that no politico can be associated with such theft.

Hmm, perhaps a phone call or email???

Camera's are only possible because of the local Government the people elect.

Although I don’t reside in Montgomery County I could not agree more. What a scam.

No Choice

Unfortunately there is never any real choice these days. You have two parties to (realistically) choose from (though I usually vote third party to send a message) and both act more or less the same. I have come to believe there is a genetic flaw that makes people run for office and think the way they do. Either that or as soon as you are elected to office for the first time, the Men-In-Black whisk you away to a special mind control center where for twenty-four hours they reprogram you to think like a politician and disregard the common sense knowledge you acquired all your life. Otherwise, I cannot understand how politicians can look you straight in the face and tell you something is good for you when you know darn well it isn't.

Choice?

That's because the government does not serve the governed anymore. They serve themselves at our expense.

We do still have a choice, but we have to stand up and say "enough is enough". The problem is that the average American citizen has become too complacent and has been conned into believing government lies.

ONE CONCERN

is drivers will become increasingly reluctant to go past a red light in order to make room for an emergency vehicle to pass.

A cop would never issue a ticket under those circumstances, actually the reverse, a driver who didn't move over might get a ticket.

The red light camera, probably not. I have no idea how you'd document the fact that you went through a red light in order to allow an ambulance to pass.
