We just completed a 3500 mile trip. Our 1490 locked up once and rebooted while driving a route at least a dozen times. Also, when we were staying in the vicinity of Valley Forge, PA, it would not route anywhere. The message was "cannot route to this destination". I have the latest firmware and maps. My ancient 76csx had no issues with routing us around and out of Valley Forge.
Also, when it self reboots, traffic monitoring seems to go away for about 50 miles. And, I have an eccoHD and every time the 1490 reboots I have to re-establish the connection.
Twice during the trip I did a master reset, hoping that the issues would be resolved.
Needless to say, I am very much unimpressed with this model. This is a second unit. The original was replaced by Garmin for exactly the same reasons.
I had a 1490T and had nothing but problems with it. Returned three of them and finally gave up. Got a 2450LM which I really like. 1490 also has a small memory which I have heard creates problems on map updates.
I like mine and have found a work around for the small memory... However..
When we left for the cities yesterday, my Nuvi did not turn on. When we passed McDonalds, Jill spoke up. So it was a dead screen. After a second appointment,it came on. After another errand, it froze at a stop light. The time and map stayed frozen all the way home. I couldn't turn it off either.
At home, I left it on the table until the battery ran down. When I plugged it back into 12v, it came up, but could not find the satellites. I did a reset and it seems to be working OK.

Pass it
As a 1490T with addon LM owner, I'd advise a pass on these. Let the bottom drop out before you pick one up as a backup or spare.
Too many superior units are dropping to great price points and will be even lower in a few weeks.
