Traffic Alert

I recently purchased (and am using) a 2460LMT. I notice now that when the traffic icon turns yellow or red, it no longer lists a number beside it for the traffic delay. Not a problem, just wondering.

.

That's a feature that Garmin thought we didn't need...so they removed it from many older units (nuvi 7x5, 37xx & others) with an "update" and simply omitted it with the newer units (nuvi 24xx, 34xx & others). The traffic icon also no longer turns grey when you've lost traffic reception/external power for x number of minutes. That's another Garmin "update".

I drive, therefore I am happy. Rodeo, wildlife and nature photography rodeophoto.ca

Only got to use it once in

Only got to use it once in the US. No traffic in Winnipeg...

What?

Garmin didn't think we needed the traffic delay time? What are they smoking?

I used to be very excited

I used to be very excited about traffic feature in GPS but it is never accurate anyways. Garmin never improved it. It may be good in some big cities in US.

You can't blame Garmin

You can't blame Garmin about the traffic data being anywhere from excellent to a joke. It's like blaming the newspaper for the war it's reporting on. Garmin is the messenger with whatever message it is handed. You can blame them for taking away certain features such as the estimated delay times, but then didn't we all complain that the delay times were wrong anyway? By no longer displaying the delay time Garmin has eliminated a probably major complaint from users they had no control over.

Mine showed clear sailing across the bridge. As it was, it took me two hours to get out of town

Not in Philadelphia, PA, can't tell you how many times it says there is traffic when there is none, nor how many it tells you "Traffic Ahead" after you've already hit it.

Traffic Times

The number for delay in minutes is never correct, and most of the time not even close. It will often say 1 to 3 minutes, which usually translates into at least a 5 to 15 minute delay.

Traffic Accuracy

I have not read how the radio stations get the traffic data but I know in some cities, there are traffic sensors in many locations along the freeways. And not so in other cities. Here in San Diego, the sensors are quite reliable and can be accessed via the web. In San Bernardino County, they apparently have no sensors, and therefore, I can't imagine where the radio stations would get accurate data.

Any agency collecting traffic speeds is going to need sensors along the freeway.

subscription

I wonder where the money goes that we pay for traffic subscriptions?

Traffic

Whether it is Garmins fault or not, first I sent my Garmin GTM60 (3D HD Receiver) back as it was completely off on traffic along I75 NW Georgia down to Ocala, Florida, exception was about 20 miles around Atlanta, then I sent the 2595LMT back to Best Buy because of freezing, turning off at times and getting me lost in downtown St Louis (construction). Then I went with the 2555LMT not needing the blue tooth (Ford SYNC) and it did not like my English accent! The new goodies are awesome and the screen excellent however I bought the garmin for traffic but that failed on the new models, I stood a better chance with my old 265WT - Anyway I hope you all had better luck than I did - I tried very hard to work through the probs but in the end gave up. Think I'm going back to Tom Tom 2535M with live services.
Lots of Luck to all and a very Happy Thanksgiving!

Traffic

I just bought a nuvi 1450LMT for the traffic feature since I will have to drive a 70 mile round trip into Dallas daily for several months. I am sorry to hear it may not work. I don't need the delay time. If I know where the wreck is I know I need to find another route. So far this seems like a great unit with lots of new features my old nuvi. 350 did't have.

Garmin Traffic

MIKE107;- There are quite a few comments across the GPS sites that the GTM60 (3D HD) started life as a minor lame duck all are hoping that a firmware fix will do the job or get a replacement on the other hand my 2555LMT that came with a GTM26 performed very badly on my 900 mile run, except for one place, Atlanta - The reporting was horrible, maybe your 1450LMT will be better and/or your area will be a better site for distribution of traffic data, all I can write is my personal travel its a great PND but I must have traffic and good traffic!
Good luck like to know how things turn out.
