Problem downloading Mapquest routes to Nuvi 2450lm

I just purchased a Nuvi 2450LM to replace my old Streetpilot c340. I have been trying for 2 days to download routes created on Mapquest to it and am getting nowhere fast. I have installed the Garmin communicator plugin Ver. 3.0.1.0 and the drivers. When I plug my Nuvi in with the USB cord, and go to the Garmin test page I get the message that my device is found and working properly. The problem comes when I create a route on Mapquest and try to send to GPS I get the message saying no device found and to plug in device and try again.
I have tried numerous times on 2 diferent computers; one with Vista and the other XP. I use Internet Explorer 8 on both.
I have read to unplug and replug and try again which does not work.
Can anyone HELP!!!!!!!
Thank you.

Trip Planner

The 2450 is one of the newer models that has the Trip Planner instead of the conventional routing engine found on the older nuvi's. I know some of these models, specifically the 37xx series, did not support route import into Trip Planner when they were first introduced. Route import was just recently added to the 37xx via a software update. I don't know the status of route import on the 24xx series. I also don't know if the Mapquest Send function handles the transfer correctly with Trip Planner. Hopefully someone who has one of these units will let us know.

I have also read that the Trip Planner does not require or have the "Import route from file" selection on the menu like the older nuvi's. Once you transfer the .GPX route file, the new route just shows up automatically. It was reported on another forum that the new route may not show up right away. You may need to wait a few minutes after the transfer, then check the Trip Planner and it will be listed.

That said, it sounds like your main problem is getting your browser to recognize your nuvi through Communicator. Does your nuvi show up on myGarmin? You may need to try a different browser.

Edit: I just did a route transfer from Mapquest on my Vista computer with IE8. It worked OK, but the first time I got the browser security alert bar for Communitor at the top of the Mapquest window. I had to click on it and agree to allow the Commuicator plugin to run. Hope this helps.

Yes my Nuvi shows up

Yes my Nuvi shows up everywhere except when I what to send a route from Mapquest.

2450

Sounds like you are doing everything right. If you have a thumb drive, SD card or some other form of removable drive, you might try doing a complete backup of your nuvi to the root of that device. Then see if Mapquest will recognize the mounted removable drive through the communicator. I have done this with my older nuvi's and Mapquest thinks the thumb drive is the nuvi and transfers the route to it.

Note that to get a complete backup you need to expose the hidden files and hidden operating system files (through Windows folder properties) on your nuvi. Which makes me wonder ... can Mapquest recognize the nuvi if these system files are hidden? If you haven't changed the folder properties on your nuvi drive, you might try doing that. It probably won't help as Communicator should be able to detect it, but it is worth a try.

Thanks for your reply

Thanks for your reply jgermann. I have been watching that discussion but still have not found my answers. The main problem I am having is when I try to send a route from Mapquest, and click on "send", "GPS" I get the message that my Nuvi is not connected and to try again. I have connected via the USB, checked with the communicator and done the test page and everything comes up OK and working properly. Without unpluging or changing anything I try to send a route to the gps and it says I am not connected?????

@gbarber

I am assuming that you can do a backup of your current Nuvi while it is attached to your PC. If you have never done one, follow instructions at
http://www.poi-factory.com/node/30394.

Even if you have previously done one, do another. That will let us know that your computer knows the GPS is connected.

Long shot, but do you have another USB port to connect to?

And another long shot, try a different USB cable.

I have not done a backup but

I have not done a backup but will.
I do not have another USB cable.
I have tried doing the download on another computer and got exactly the same results.
Seeing as this thing is not even a week old I am going to call Garmin and see if they can do anything for me. I tried calling Friday afternoon and of course they were closed for the weekend.

Problem Accessing Mapquest routes on Nuvi 2450lm

I have been successful in downloading a route from MapQuest and have found it the route that i created in the root directory in the GPX folder. I can’t figure out how to bring the route up on my GPS. I tried using Trip Planner and looking under Extras. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks
