24XX series question

Has anyone figured out how to get the unit out of PC mode while it is still connected to the computer? In other words so you can do maintenance, etc. I have only been able to get there while connected to a wall outlet.

???

Not sure I understand the question exactly.

On my 765T - after I have had it connected to my PC and I click on the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon in my system tray and then click on the entry for my Nuvi/SD - the nuvi is disconnected but stays powered on so I can charge it and/or do simulations, etc.

Nope....

Charging and Navigating Simultaneously when not in your car

You can modify a cable
http://pinouts.ru/GPS/garmin_nuvi_power_pinout.shtml
Also Just be sure the computer doesn't sleep. Harware problems almost always stop charging and in some cases may actually discharge your unit.

Or you can make a sort of wall wart
get a http://www.dealextreme.com/p/universal-ac-to-12v-car-cigaret... and use your existing power cord.

With my 2460 if I connect a regular USB cord with the mini connection (not the black USB with micro connector that came with the unit) to the power craddle it goes in operating mode instead of communicating mode, it then lets me do simulations etc.
