I just saw an ad for this Passport IQ. It combines an Escort Radar Detector and a GPS built into one unit. Being that Escort is one of the best radar detectors, and the unit is using SiRFstar III and NAVTEQ maps, so it sounds like it may be a great unit, on paper.
I've had a Passport 8500 for many years and love it. The unit seems to have lots of functionality as well. It's a bit pricy ($649.00) but sounds like an interesting concept and would hopefully navigate as well as my Nuvi. I also wonder how they get around the laws of States that ban radar detectors? I guess most cops would take one look at it and assume it's just a GPS?
Has anyone had any experience with this unit?
Very expensive!
That's not just expensive, it's *very* expensive!
For what they want for that, you can get a Valentine 1 radar detector and pretty much any Nuvi you want!
Nuvi 2460, 680, DATUM Tymserve 2100, Trimble Thunderbolt, Ham radio, Macintosh, Linux, Windows
It's expensive
I combine my Escort 9500ix and Garmin POI factory RLC and speed camera. Escort defender database is not accurate as the POI RLC and speed camera.
Val - Nuvi 785t and Streetpilot C340
Pay attention when using Radar Detectors
I also suggest the Valentine One and a GPSr of your choice. Cinninati Microwave is way out of line on the price for that unit (Escort Passport iQ Radar Detector with GPS Navigation).
I use The Valentine 1 along with Navigon on my Droid with the radardroid app for the poifactory RLC files.

Always be aware of your surroundings when cruising down the road using any Radar Detector even those with cloaking circuits can be defeated and detected by the police.

Good concept
It's a good concept; but, some of the reviews I read says it doesn't work as well as the stand alone Escort.
I have a Valentine One and Garmin. I would prefer one unit; but, my set-up works fine. The directional arrows on the V1 are great.
Laser is what you need to be wary of. Although it detects it, only if another car was already targeted by laser do you get advance warning.
