Jill (new Jill voice)

Thanks. It's so easy to overlook a WebUpdater Voice update so it's folks here that are our best means of notification. I'll have to see how she sounds today on a grocery store run.

Jill is not available on my 255W. I am heartbroken.

I suppose it for the best though. Samantha would probably get very jealous if I installed Jill.

Did it in TTS Voice Editor a while back. Set her to 57. Smooth as silk!

I just downloaded it. I wonder if a local street will now be spoken as drive instead of doctor. I understand dr can be an abbreviation for drive or doctor but a road name that ends with dr is (almost?) always drive and not doctor.

If you want to correct the dr/doctor issue, you can use TTS_Speech_Doctor to fix it. You can find the program and documentation here:

The fix "Change "Dr" to "Drive" instead of "Doctor""
can be found in the English as it applies to all TTS voices.

Does the new Jill voice work with all the old models? I have an original Nuvi (350).

The TTS Voice Editor describes the new Jill file as being for 7x5 and 37xx models. However, I may be wrong.

Does the nuvi 350 support TTS voices?

If yes, what is the file size? Check any file. If you have something in the range of 15 MB, then the new Jill will work. If your files are around 2-4 MB, then it will not work.

The new Jill uses RealSpeak voice engine (big files), but Garmin also used Vocalizer and the speech engine is different (small files)

Jill 2.90 appears as an update for both my 760 and 1490

Jill is my travel partner. Couldn't really go anyway without her.

Just uploaded new Jill 2.90 to my 660 with no problems.

And I have a Jill on the 350 dated May 2010. It's size is 21504KB.

I use Jill all the time, when the kids are in the car, it's Spongebob Squarepants when traveling.

I like jill too

It's the only voice I have on my unit.

That is definitively a voice with the RealSpeak engine. It means the 350 will play the new Jill without any problem.

Jill has been my favorite since I got my Nüvi660 many years ago. I will load her new voice for sure.

I just updated Jill and there were some other updates that I did not do because I am not sure what they are. Can anyone tell me what they are and if I need to do them.

If you use WebUpdater (as most here will suggest for updates), the software first checks for firmware updates for your GPS then goes to another page for other updates including Voices. A lot of the updates won't be needed (unless you're fluent in understanding spoken and written Finnish, etc.) but that's where updates for Jack & Jill, Karen & what's-his-name and Emily and the other what's-his-name will be found to be checked if you're interested, then downloaded and installed.

Looks like this update corrected the doctor instead of drive error, at least for one road near my home.

This is helpful info.

My Jill was hard to understand, not all words were said correctly but this update fixed that and the dr. is drive for all the roads I have gone on.

I frequently rotate through the female voices, changing them when she starts to get annoying. Will have to add Jill back in the rotation

After I updated Jill voice to version 2.90 on my Nuvi 1350t, everytime when there is traffic, she says something like "P9 traffic ahead P9". Strange, I make sure that I have all other updated texts when it shows up on the webupdater.

Anyone else hear this strange alert ?

Just updated the newer Jill. She is better but still needs a little more speech therapy. Still saying Street Charles instead of Saint Charles for St-Charles.

We have a street here named Burleigh, pronounced 'Burl-eye'. Old Jill pronounced it 'Burl-ee'. Haven't had a chance yet to try the new Jill.

I laugh when she pronounces "First National Bank" as "First Natural Bank"

Im getting that strange traffic warning as well. I did notice the times are now be added and subtracted to the estimated time accounting for traffic. The change occurred with update. Nuvi 765T.

I tried the new Jill in my Nuvi 350, but switched back to Jack. To me the female voices just aren't clear and concise enough.
