nuvi 2460 default power-on screen

No real big deal but 95% of the time I simply want my GPS to go the map screen when it powers up instead of the main menu. It's only one touch to get there but annoying just the same.

Has anyone discovered a way to go directly to the map screen when the unit powers up?

?

I think all the Nuvi's behave like that.

How long have you had the 2460 and are you happy with it? I'm waiting for the price to drop a couple more dollars to get one.

Like it so far ...

I've only had the 2460 a couple of weeks and like it so far. Off the top of my head:

I like the: large screen (a challenge in my Miata), junction views, speed of calculation, touch screen (my 1st GPS w/ one), ability to upload tracks (Trip Log) into Mapsource, mini-USB on the powered mount, ability to configure the main menu (although there's currently not much you can put on it), Traffic info might be useful but haven't had a chance to try it out, same w/ Pedestrian nav.

I don't like: having to go through the main menu every power-up to get to map, not being able to download routes from Mapsource (OK, I understand it's possible but the required lengthy recalc of every one makes it impractical), micro-USB connector on the GPS (might be OK but seems too fragile for the connector you plug/unplug every time you hook up to computer).

Just curious

Just curious why you object to that connector. It is on almost every electronic hand-held device I have. Seems plenty sturdy to me.

First micro I've seen ...

Everything I have until now have mini-USBs, this is the first micro-USB I've had. The inside of the receptacle just looks fragile and susceptible to damage. Maybe not, hope not. It's also harder for me to get the correct orientation when I plug it in (which side is up).

Anyway, no biggie - I'll get used to it like any new thing.

What bugs me is that there

What bugs me is that there is no way to turn off the annoying keyboard beep without disabling all sounds from the gps. Really, how difficult would it be to put a toggle for the keyboard beep in the menu?

I forgot about that ...

That IS annoying, isn't it?

If you ignore the

If you ignore the 'Legal-Ignore' screen doesn't it bump to the main menu by default.

Further, given enough time, doesn't it bounce from the main menu to the map page? I swear I've seen it do this in the past. I don't know what the time span is, though.

It does get to the Main Menu

It does get to the Main Menu automatically after a few seconds but, at least mine, won't go to the Map screen unless I select it from the Main Menu.

Just start driving. It will go from the main to the map screen about the time you reach 20 MPH.

I'l be darned ...

grin Exactly right, almost. There's also a 30 sec. timeout on the Main Menu. Mine switches to the Map screen when I'm above about 20 MPH and after the Main Menu has been displayed for about 30 sec., which is whi I never saw it. I've just pushed the map icon automatically when the Main Menu came up.

Thanks for the response. Aren't these forums great?

So that's the secret. On all my older Nuvi's the screen went away at about 20 mph but on my 3790 it doesn't. I never thought to wait 30 seconds plus be going at least 20 mph, I just thought it didn't disappear automatically anymore and pressed the Agree icon.

Both my Nuvi 350 and 760 go automatically to the map display after about one minute of driving if I have not touched anything in the menus first.

My 1490 does the same thing.

satellite lock

My 765T will automatically move from the warning screen to the main menu to the map.

However, the time it takes to do so is a function of whether the unit has locked on enough satellites to be able to "calculate".

I noticed this after having taken my unit inside over night. When first fired up in the morning, it takes longer to find the satelites.

If it has a lock on satellites then it takes about 30 seconds each to go through the screens to the map.

Thanks, that is nice to

Thanks, that is nice to know. Been pushing on the map.

how do I display sat status on my 2460?

Just got my new 2460 (ordered Friday from Amazon!). Figured out how to do a lot of things.

But I haven't figured out how to display satellite status -- on my old 660/680, you touch the upper left corner showing signal strength, and it brings up a display of which birds where.

How do I do that on the 2460?

That's how mine works ...

I don't have my 2460 in front of me right now but I'm pretty sure that's how mine works. On the opening screen, the one with Where To and Map, etc., the upper left corner gets me to the satellite status. I'll check when the other half brings my GPS home.
