Touching Vehicle Icon

This gives neat info like location elevation and icons to find nearest police, hospital and fuel. Wouldn't it be nice if additional icons were available their for food, attractions, etc.

Sure would save time from going back to the main menu - where to? - poi's -etc...

Are we there yet?

Great for Saving sites

I use this feature when saving a new location that I haven't already programmed. Usefull when the programmed location takes you on the wrong side of the road or you are dealing with a large parking lot.

Good idea. Had the wrong side of road experience recently. I'll use this tip from now on.

The new units do just that. At least my 2595LMT does so I assume the rest of the new units do as well. As with most Nuvis if not all, touch the map and it takes you to the browse browse map screen and there is a search icon in the top right corner. When you touch this icon there is a drop down menu with icons for food, gas, banks, shopping, parking and several others. If you select the food it will highlight the closest place and put its name at the bottom of the screen with a "GO" icon as well as show you all the rest in the area.

That would be great....

.....but I don't think I can do this with my 765t.

Touching Vehicle IconM

My 3790LMT doesn't do that either. Wish it did.

Should have included

that I was referring to a Nuvi 1350 which I also use for paperless geocaching.

From a GPSMagazine article for Garmin GPS models that support it:

Garmin's "Where Am I?" feature is a helpful feature that can be used to tell emergency personnel your location, as well as locate nearby services. To view your current location information, tap Settings >Where Am I?...

Tip: A handy shortcut to view the "Where Am I?" page is to tap the vehicle icon on the map screen.

Not on the NUVI 350

Touching the icon on the 350 only takes you to the save screen.

I have to touch "Where To-My Location-Current Location" to display that. This only gives your co-ordinates and elevation. It does not show nearby services, etc.

Spounds like a great idea to simplify it on the newer models.

Found It By Accident

I found this feature by accident one day. I thought it was pretty cool and comes in handy when trying to save points when driving off road and such. That combined with my handheld with its topo maps, I can get around pretty good on private lands and wildlife management areas that I fish and photograph on.

Where Is I Is?

(Nuvi 750)

I stumbled onto this short cut quite a while ago and the data surely is useful. But...why oh why don't they include the name of the dern city you're in?

Hint: Punch the fuel button- (if you're not in the middle of nowhere) that usually gets it.

Even better, my wife's Magellan (ugh!) gives it to us straight- even if we happen to be on some mountaintop on the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Nuvi 765t

When I hit the car I get My Location with address and city name on the left side of the screen.

Interesting differences in the different Garmins. Well I still wish there was a shortcut to the food screen.
