Basecamp Confusing

I recently purchased the nuvi 3790LMT unit and loving it but trying to use Basecamp is very frustrating.
I want to be able to create my own route and exporting it to my garmin but when I select the waypoints and select create route, all I get is the individual waypoints saved under my favorites in my garmin. I thought I can just combine all the waypoints into one single route.
I can't figure out what's going on. Hope somebody can help.

no hope ;)

Sorry but there is no hope. You are doomed wink

But seriously, that's the way Garmin routes work. It's never whole route being transferred but waypoints only. And route calculated in unit can be different than on computer.

This was a lot said about this problem on forum, just go and look across post.

37xx

Unfortunately with the 37xx, the problem is worse than grzesja describes. Garmin does not support route import on this series. At one time they indicated on their FAQ's that they would add the support 1st quarter of this year. But that never materialized and they have now withdrawn that FAQ.

As you discovered, you can import Favorites, but not routes from Basecamp. You will need to use the Favorites to manually recreate the route.

The issue is not Basecamp

As noted above, your device is not capable of importing routes.

It is a very confusing program. I can't even figure out how to make it FIND an address that is on the map, much less an address that isn't on the map. I know this doesn't have anything to do with your routing problem but it does have to do with CONFUSING. I'm actually wondering what this program is for other than looking at what is on your GPS.

Right-click to Find the Find Toolbar

Right-click on the menu bar and see if the "Find" toolbar is activated, because there is a Find toolbar in BaseCamp. On my install of BaseCamp it is activated, but I do not recall if it was by default or whether I turned it on. In any event, once the Find toolbar is on, it will appear above the map, and allows you to search for a whole host of POIs as well as addresses.

Can't find an address

I have the FIND bar open. I tell it to ...
FIND - Address,
NEAR - (I make this blank),
CONTAINING - (I enter my home or work address)

It responds with a warning popup ...
"Invalid location, E.g. 'Abdabad, IRN"

The only other NEAR choices are "Center of Map" or "Center of Selection", neither of which works.

The point is, I don't know where the address is. I want BaseCamp to find it for me.

So I haven't done to much with BaseCamp yet.

Maybe I'm doing something dumb, or is it the program?

"Near"

Put in the city, state or just the zip code where the address you are searching for is in that search field - works fine and dandy for me.

Dumb

Well that answers the dumb part. I didn't want center of map or selection so I just left NEAR blank but was putting the entire address in the 3rd field.

I didn't think about putting the city and state in the NEAR field.

Thanks,

Mapsource is streets ahead

Mapsource is streets ahead, I don't understand why they would discontinue it. A backward step.

The find option is better
It has the cross hairs for the centre of the map

two things that spring to mind

they simply don't have the cojones to say we are getting out of the GPS business so they are incrementally killing off anything resembling useful, progressive products until buyers simply stop buying and they can close their doors.
