Really?
Apple does not play well with others!
Apple device's interact with both Windows PC's and Mac PC's through I-tunes seemlessly. Granted there are a lot of people that do not like I-tunes let alone Apple.
Blackberry is the same way, as far as interacting with both devices.
Both above mentioned devices have easily found software to connect and sync to both windows and Mac.
My Android HTC Shift only has software to connect to PC.
Not saying it cannot be done. Just from my limited experience with Android. If there is an app that allows this that I do not have to pay for, point me in the right direction. The other two I just go to the respective website and there it is.
Android apparantly I have to hunt and dig. Also my Mac does not see the Android as an extra drive so I cannot copy and paste file to the on board micro SD card. On Windows it is no problem.
So who is not playing well with others? Looks like Android to me, or is it just my phone?
Updated: This was a quick change. I went ahead and did a search for "Android to Mac". There is ways of sync with Android and Mac. But I did not see one software that does it all like the software for Blackberry and Apple device's.
Still as has been said before, whatever OS you like the best is the one you like and nobody can change any of ours minds about it.
What?????
Motorola is a fantastic hardware manufacturer? If they were, Motorola wouldn't have carved up the company and sold off the cell phone division. Interesting that Motorola started the whole cell phone industry, but couldn't control it, and barely survives.
So when will Android really make their own hardware? It'll still be Motorola.
Lets see what Google does?
Google phones USE Android OS....
Your Correct Google Phones do use the Android OS, however you seemed to overlook
Google owns the fabulous android OS, and Google now also owns Motorola Mobility a fantastic hardware manufacturer.
A brilliant Steve Jobs used a quote that says, “people who are really serious about software should make their own hardware.”
Should Apple be worried, because the Android OS is eating away at the Apple IOS? Just look above at the quote Job's tossed about in the past. It appears Google is as serious as a heart attack.
When you are dead, you don’t know that you are dead. It is only difficult for the others. It is the same when you are stupid.
It's All About The Patents Baby
Regarding the Google/Motorola deal, you're all missing the point. The hardware is the secondary concern for Google. It's the patents that Motorola holds that matter.

Correct me if I'm wrong but what it sounds like your are saying is "Android is not a Secure OS?" This is why anyone that can design an Android app can get it on the marketplace. By doing this there is no quality control, which basically means that app is not approved and can be designed to "mine" any info from the phone and send it to whomever designed it. Sorry that does not sound very safe.
Not saying Apples apps are any better but there is a control and approval process to make sure that the app does not do more then what it is being marketed for. There are Apple apps that do ask for permission for areas of the device that you would think are not needed. As an example why would an app that is used to estimate fuel mileage need access to your address book? It happens.
Again if you like Android, or Blackberry, or Apple, enjoy it. Which ever works for you. They all have there faults.

Exercising Our Remote Application Removal Feature

Every now and then, we remove applications from Android Market due to violations of our Android Market Developer Distribution Agreement or Content Policy. In cases where users may have installed a malicious application that poses a threat, we’ve also developed technologies and processes to remotely remove an installed application from devices. If an application is removed in this way, users will receive a notification on their phone.
Recently, we became aware of two free applications built by a security researcher for research purposes. These applications intentionally misrepresented their purpose in order to encourage user downloads, but they were not designed to be used maliciously, and did not have permission to access private data — or system resources beyond permission.INTERNET. As the applications were practically useless, most users uninstalled the applications shortly after downloading them.
After the researcher voluntarily removed these applications from Android Market, we decided, per the Android Market Terms of Service, to exercise our remote application removal feature on the remaining installed copies to complete the cleanup.

Sony's BetaMax Syndrome
Apple does not play well with others!
This deserves an explanation.
It's the BetaMax of Cell Phones. Apple should have learned something from Sony vs. Everyone else (VHS).
Sony didn't play well with others also.
It's a shame because the Iphone is a great Phone, My Daughter and Son in Law both have the Iphone 4 with IOS5 The compatibility with previous apps was a little crazy until I jail broke them both. The phones can now use third party app or the Apple app store.
For those that might think or even say out loud that I'm talking hacking, well I'm Not!
Jailbreaking and Unlocking is Now Officially Legal in United States
By Skipper Eye | July 26th, 2010
The United States government today has announced that jailbreaking and unlocking iPhones, rooting of Android phones and ripping DVDs (for educational purposes) is completely legal as long as they are not violating copyright law. Jailbreaking and Unlocking of iPhones has never been illegal, it was just that Apple had strict policies right from the start which prohibited users from installing apps on their device which were not approved by Apple, along with locking the phone so that it can be used on one carrier only.

With all that said, The android OS is by far the easiest OS to deal with Hands down, because it's just a check box in settings allowing 3rd party apps with out Jailbreaking (rooting)although rooting a Android does give you better command of your phone (i.e. custom roms, remove carrier bloatware, tethering and more).

how you Jailbroke iOS5? If you did it's a tethered jailbreak, right? Meaning of course you have to be teathered to a computer to reboot the iPhone if need be.
And please explain what you mean by Android allowing 3rd party apps by "just" clicking a check box". To me, 3rd party apps are just apps not written by Apple in my case and Google in your case. As you know, there are hundreds of thousands 3rd party apps available at Apples App store, ie 3rd party apps and absolutely no reason to need a Jailbroken iPhone to get any of them as you inferred.
There are in addition more apps available through Cidia etc. if you have a Jailbroken iPhone.
And claiming the iPhone is the BetaMax of smart phones is an uninformed statement unless of course you mean it's superior, as many experts at the time said BetaMax was a better system than VHS.

Okay I'll tell you
If I need to explain third party apps that do not appear in either store store, may I suggest you use google or go ahead and put that third party app on the Iphone without using the app store if it's not jailbroken, on a Android you can just by clicking on a check box. http://www.informit.com/articles/article.aspx?p=1732366&seqN...
As far as Beta max is concerned, if you remember correctly it dried up and blew away when Sony decided to keep it's architecture closed.
The VHS machines were cheaper to produce and therefore cheaper to buy and this is most likely why they caught on instead of the (almost universally accepted) higher quality Betamax. Sony did not want to license Betamax technology to other companies; they wanted to keep it proprietary. Sanyo were one of the very few that licensed Betamax for their own production. Sony's license terms were so strict that soon Sony was the lone soldier and couldn't keep the format alive here in the USA. It did last a few more years in Europe before Sony threw in the towel.
JVC, licensed the VHS technology to anyone who wanted to use it, flooding the market with VHS machines. Hence, Sony lost that war.
So that's why the Android OS is Eating away at the Apple IOS. And soon there will be another Android release.

Big deal about the "Remote Application" removal. Android is not the only company that has done this. Apple has and so has Kindle to name two.
Rooting a phone, big deal, whether it is Android, Apple, or what ever. Is this not defeating the safeguards that have been put in place by the manufacture?

I didn't click on BobDee's
I didn't click on BobDee's link, but to put it simply, in Android, under Application Settings (Settings icon>Applications) the first item in the list that appears is "Unknown Sources" The expanded description is "Allow installation of non-Market applications". If you check this item and acknowledge the prompt that comes up saying you essentially know what you're getting into, you can install apps that are NOT found in the Android Market. A good example of this is the beta version of Swype Keyboard. The beta is not available on the Android Market at all and must be downloaded from swype.com. The only way to do that is to have "Unknown Sources" checked, or else you will be told you cannot download from outside the Market.
The big difference between iPhone and Android in regards to apps from unknown sources is that you don't have to do anything special to an Android device to be able to download apps from outside the Android Market. With an iPhone you have to jailbreak it first before you can download from alternate app stores. Android you tick the box, tap OK to the prompt that pops up, and you're done.

As far as Beta max is concerned, if you remember correctly it dried up and blew away when Sony decided to keep it's architecture closed.
Well that's not true. Sony did not keep their system closed. Beta recorders were made by Sony, Sanyo, Toshiba, WEGA, Pioneer, Murphy, Sears, RadioShack, Aiwa, Quelle, NEC and Zenith. They were outsold by VHS mainly because they were cheaper.
And to say Apple should have known better is a bit funny. The iPhone was unveiled on January 9, 2007, and released on June 29, 2007, and the first commercially available phone to run Android was the HTC Dream, released on October 22 2008.
In addition, iPhone had pinch to zoom when released in 2007, Android in February 2010.

I've played around with
I've played around with iPhones and the hardware is pretty damn good. That has always been one of Apple's biggest strengths. The software looks good, which is another Apple strength. However I personally do not like the lock-in aspect. In other words, I don't like iTunes at all. The biggest issue I have with iTunes is music related in that Apple re-encodes all music with its Fairplay DRM, resulting in a loss of sound quality. Since I refuse to use iTunes, an iPhone is out.
The entire point though is that Apple's "walled garden" approach, while potentially more secure than Android, actually hinders its progress. The iPhone 4S was a letdown in terms of iPhone evolution.
Now if both sides could call off their rabid fanboys there would be more civil discussions, such as what we are having here.
P.S. Apple had pinch-to-zoom first. Android had copy and paste before Apple. Honestly, can we stop with the bragging now? It really is counterproductive.

Actually...
VHS won the home video market for two reasons: the first tape lengths were more conventional than beta... and porn was made available on VHS.
Beta was long a broadcast staple videotape format... because it was technologically superior.

From the list you mentioned three has a short run manufacturing Betamax equipment, because of Sony's rigid license policy's then dumped them for JVC's VHS.
The rest were merely distributors of the product.
The reason the other two manufactures were not mentioned is because their run was short lived before they jumped ship.
In Addition, Android had Eva, Vlingo in 2009 Apple introduced Siri this year.

You couldn't even tape a football game on one tape or one movie on one tape. That's one thing that killed BETAMAX
VHS won the home video market for two reasons: and porn was made available on VHS.
Ultimately, VHS won the battle, and tech lore has it that the porn industry played a big role in that victory. Sony reportedly wouldn’t let pornographic content be put on Betamax tapes, while JVC and the VHS consortium had no such qualms. Thus Sony's Stringent Licensing is what Killed BetaMax
Beta was long a broadcast staple videotape format... because it was technologically superior.
Actually I thought we were talking about the consumer market, since here at the PoiFactory we are a community of consumers.
I think your confused!
The long a broadcast staple videotape format used was the Betacam Format(s) which were not compatible with BetaMax.
To help you understand the sony product your speaking of better, I will supply this link:

So has Apple learned anything from Sony being humiliated in the VHS vs Betamax war? I think not.
I'm not a viewer of porn, however since you brought up the topic, as the adults that we are, the decision should be ours and shouldn't have been dictated by Sony or Steve Jobs. I own my Itouch and should be able to view what I want from any app made, otherwise it's censorship and Apple’s role has no business being the moral police in any of it's communication devices.

Well, It Seems to Work
You own your TV. How much porn is available over-the-air (OTA)? Profanity isn't allowed OTA, and is fined when it happens. It's your TV and you can't even get swearing over the air. There is censorship. Cable is another matter. Look at the contrast between OTA and subscribed controlled access media.
Don't think of it as the "moral police". Think of it as market targeting. Even with this selective approval, I find there are more apps than I could possibly ever use, or even consider.
But anyways, I always find it somewhat hypocritical that over-the-air broadcasts are censored to the point that profanity is fined, and anything goes for what's accessible over cable/internet. Can anyone provide a conclusive and irrefutable explanation to that? Forget citing law, use reason and logic.
When you are dead, you don’t know that you are dead. It is only difficult for the others. It is the same when you are stupid.

What I'm trying to say is that you can run another security feature, other then your phone and download the app securely, without paying the special apple fees it takes to download there apps.
How would you feel if...
the present iPhone 4S was called the iPhone 5 instead?
The iPhone is doing quite well, and the "walled garden" doesn't appear to be a hinderance. Apple is big, very big, thanks to the iPhone. No need to get greedy now.
Let me remind you, we are talking about Apple, not Nokia, Motorola, Samsung, HTC, LG, etc. Apple has been in the cell phone market for like four years. And the other guys? Pretty impressive. And most interestingly, I find Apple's repertoire to be most interesting: black or white, two or three memory levels. Compare that against the mind-boggling array of ever changing Android offerings from numerous well-heeled cell phone providers. And what about Windows phones?
Keep in mind that the iPhone is being copied and changed the cell/smartphone product.
The iPhone 4S is targeted at people coming off contract. My previous phone was a 2+ year old iPhone 3G. The 3G is a great phone, the 4S blows it away. The evolution of the iPhone should not to be viewed from one generation to the next, but with respect to the service contract cycle and the delta between the iPhone held by the customer and the newest iPhone available when that customer is coming off contract. That's the delta that will determine if/when a customer will get the newest model.
Oh yeah, here's something I find very cool. AirPlay is awesome. Within seconds, I can take a picture on my iPhone and be showing it on my AppleTV completely wireless with just a couple touches, or if I was out and took a bunch of pics on my iPhone, I can be showing them on my AppleTV pretty much as soon as the iPhone is on the network. Very cool!
The entire point though is that Apple's "walled garden" approach, while potentially more secure than Android, actually hinders its progress. The iPhone 4S was a letdown in terms of iPhone evolution.
When you are dead, you don’t know that you are dead. It is only difficult for the others. It is the same when you are stupid.
Are iOS 5 and iPhone 4S already outdated?
Seriously, if I bought iPhone 4S last week, I would return it today. Other than being invested in the Mac lifestyle or loads of iOS apps, why wouldn't you, if a gadget geek, not take the arguably better phone or operating system? It's not just Galaxy Nexus. Motorola unveiled Droid Razr yesterday, and it's arguably an iPhone 4S sales buster, too. Perhaps iPhone's smaller display appeals to you -- okay, I can understand that. These Androids are huge. But otherwise?

Like the Android Marketplace it does not cost anything to download apps from the App Store of Apple. Like the Android Market Place there are paid and free apps. To get access to the App Store you do need to give a credit card number though. This takes a step out so that if you do want a paid app you do not have to find the card. You do have to input a password when you do download an app whether free or not. This password prevent unauthorized use so that when a friend or child is browsing they do not start downloading a bunch of paid apps.
As someone else mentioned, yes in Android you can click an option to allow download apps from other than the Market Place. Do so at your own risk.
Yes with a rooted Iphone/Ipad you can use Cydia or some other software to get alot of free apps. How many of these are dangerous? How many are actually paid apps on the store but free through Cydia that are actually pirated? Not saying good or bad about pirating software.
Again I like my Blackberry it has served me well in the past 2 years. Still carry and use it every day. This is my personnal phone. I also have an Ipad. This belongs to the company I work for but it is mine for personnal use. It has me service manuals on it, my entire music collection among other apps. I have the HTC Evo Shift from work. Still getting used to it. When I can use it it works well. I can do nearly everything on the HTC that I do on the Ipad. There is a few things that I either have not found the app for it or I do not try because of the screen size. The biggest problem I have with the HTC is it has to "reload" alot. Cannot just turn it on from sleep and always have a phone ready. Not sure if this is a Android or phone issue. Then last but not least I have a company owned Mac for personnal use. I also have several Windows machines I'm exposed to everyday at home and work ranging from the aging XP to windows 7.
I'm comfortable with all of them. I have my favorites as everybody does.
Oh, I get plenty of porn on my Ipad.
Market share numbers doesn't show IPhone fending off Android
Watch Out Apple, your cloud is about to turn into fog!
That's not fog, that's dust as iPhone leaves the others behind.
"Demand for the new device extends Apple's lead as the top maker of smart phones as it fends off rivals including Samsung Electronics and HTC that rely on Google's Android software.

Doesn't sound like BetaMax's record to me.
I guess we will have to wait until the numbers are in for January to see if the IPhone can gain any ground on Android and see where the dust really settles, just remember that according to Nielsen Ratings, 40 percent of adult U.S mobile consumers have smartphones, and 40 percent of them use Android OS. Apple’s iOS mobile operating system took second place at 28 percent and everyone else gets the rest.

We all know The IPhone is a great product and Apple is a strong army of one, and their selling more handsets than any individual SmartPhone company worldwide, but it's like a man walking down a dark alley and getting mugged by 100 men or so, the out come isn't going to be on the side of the lone man.
Now that is the BetaMax vs VHS syndrome.

The bottom line is, I don't care what phone you have. I'm even going to get a new one, jumping out of my Droid 2 to the Droid Prime 4G LTE.

How I Feel
[How would you feel if] the present iPhone 4S was called the iPhone 5 instead?
Diesel, if the present device were called the iPhone 5 it wouldn't change my opinion. The iPhone simply is not for me, not just because I loathe iTunes and refuse to allow a full implementation of Quicktime on my system (I use QTLite), but simply by not allowing me the freedom to do what I desire with my device out of the box.
Android isn't perfect. It has its issues such as carrier induced fragmentation, which is something I refer to as "executive meddling". Parts of it are clunky and not as intuitive as they should be. However, Android users are free to make changes, even without rooting their phones. What kind of customization can an iPhone user truly do without jailbreaking the phone?
For a lot of people the iPhone is just fine and dandy, and more power to them if they want such a device. It's not my place to question what people use and it's not my place to ridicule them for their choices. Trust me, there are enough Android fanboys out there that do that already, and just as many iPhone fanboys that do it to Android users in return. However, understand that I have good solid reasons for rejecting an iPhone and don't dismiss it simply because it's the "in" thing to do.

LTE
Bob, you may want to wait on jumping to an LTE device. Make sure your provider has great coverage first.

I understand
And I'm not talking about iOS vs Android. I was replying to your comment about Samsung leaving Apple in the cloud (I assume you meant the iPhone) I posted the link so you could see the record.

When I check the box Unknown Sources it usually has something to do with Rooting, installing a custom Rom or installing a App that was downloaded to my computer rather than my phone. There are legitimate reasons to check the box other than pirated applications, just wanted to clarify that.
Oh, I get plenty of porn on my Ipad.
I have a great live with my Wife of 35 years, I personally don't need it. I do believe if a adult wants to view pictures or watch video's that should be their choice though. After all it is your equipment.

What do you mean don't compare operating systems?
You were comparing an operating system usage to smart phone sales. I said the iPhone was doing very well in sales compared to the rest of the smart phone industry.

I realize that, but somewhere along the line you said "Watch Out Apple, your cloud is about to turn into fog!" which is not on topic and of course also includes the hardware we call the iPhone which is selling very well, thank you.
Now if you had said "Watch Out iOS your cloud is about to turn into fog" that would have been different. But I still would have responded wondering why you're singling out the second most popular smart phone OS and not the others that are behind both Android & iOS. Such as Windows Phone, Palm WebOS and Blackberry.
Were you trolling us loyalist because you knew you'd get a rise out of us??

Imitation Is The finest form of flattery
And let's be clear that Android OS is imitating the Apple iOS.
Just like Windows imitated Apple OS. I still refuse to do Windows. On occasion I have to, and it is awkward and uncomfortable.
Size doesn't matter.
It's quality, not quantity that counts.
There are more VWs out there than Porsches.
If Apple has so many problems, etc., then explain why APPL is huge, bigger than MSFT, bigger than GOOG. Given all the hype, it still can't drive GOOG.

Isaacson wrote that Jobs was livid in January 2010 when HTC introduced an Android phone that boasted many of the popular features of the iPhone. Apple sued, and Jobs told Isaacson in an expletive-laced rant that Google's actions amounted to "grand theft."
"I will spend my last dying breath if I need to, and I will spend every penny of Apple's $40 billion in the bank, to right this wrong," Jobs said. "I'm going to destroy Android, because it's a stolen product. I'm willing to go thermonuclear war on this."

Razr, 7.1-millimeter thick thinnest 4G phone on the market
The phone also has a back covered in kevlar, which aids it in being so thin, with a 4.3-inch touchscreen up front and a 1.2-gigahertz dual-core processor inside.
As for cameras, the Razr will pack an 8-megapixel and 1080p shooter out back and a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera. It also features 1 gigabyte of RAM and 32 gigabytes of storage (16 gigabytes built in and another 16 gigabytes on an included microSD card).
