Nuvi 765T & JV

I'm having a hard time getting JV to work on my "new" Nuvi. I got it for this very feature & am having no luck. So, those of you that got it to work in simulated mode, could you give me a few pointers? Such as:

1. Does JV work in 3D or 2D, or both?
2. After putting the 750MB jvc file in the Garmin>jvc folder, do you also copy the old D1279060A.sum too?

The LA is working just fine, showing all lanes ahead, but not JV.

So far, I have tried setting location in San Fran in Calif & going to Oakland, thinking that JV should be working there; Used the 50MB jvc file, and the 750MB one; with and without the sum. All no luck.

Appreciate any help.

Be sure to power off\ and on

Be sure to power off and on the gps.

You want it to do the slower reboot, not come out of a sleep mode.

Did you update your new Nuvi

Did you update your new Nuvi to the 2012.20 map?

Reboot & update

I tried the reboot and also updated the map to 2012.2, still not working.

I assume when Lane Assist shows direction to choose lanes ahead, JV should also come on, is that so?

Not necessarily...

Not necessarily. JV doesn't show up on minor roads, for instance. You can simulate a drive down an interstate highway (in the USA), taking an exit, and likely see JV there.

JCV, not JVC

Note that both the folder name and file extension are JCV, not JVC.

Nope

The .sum file is a checksum of the main file. They are used by the diagnostics and can be deleted. They are recreated by the firmware.

I support the right to keep and arm bears.

Yes indeed, typo here, they're all JCV. Thanks

Got JV working...

when the 750+MB jcv file resides in internal memory. When I move the file to a 1GB Kensington MicroSD, in the Garmin>JCV folder, nothing.

I thought I read that the map file and the JCV file can reside on internal & SD memory respectively and the JV would still work.

AFAIK

As far as I know, that's backwards.. map can go in either place but junction view file needs to go on the internal drive in the jcv folder only.

It's about the Line- If a line can be drawn between the powers granted and the rights retained, it would seem to be the same thing, whether the latter be secured by declaring that they shall not be abridged, or that the former shall not be extended.

This problem

This problem maybe model specific. I have the 750MB JV file in the \Garmin\JCV folder on a 16Gb microSD card in my 3790 and it works just fine from there.

I deleted all JV files from the 3790's internal storage so I know that it's only reading the one from the SD card.

A friend has a Zumo and can't get the large JV file to work from the card either.

probably right

You're probably right.. my 765T is 'old-school' now in the world of Garmin OS's I guess.

Well, that explains..

Works on old 755T ... should work on 765T

I was able to get the large JCV file working from the SD card on my old 755T. I used the same method described by t923347 (removing the JCV folder from the internal drive and putting the new .JCV file on the SD in \Garmin\JCV). My 755T is one of the original ones; bought in Oct. 2008, came with 2.5 firmware. I am currently runing the latest 4.0 firmware. I have heard of some issues with the newer 7x5 units that came with firmware 3.80, but it works fine on mine.

What is a .jcv file?

What are .jcv files used for?

That's the data file
