What's the Deal (ad for free updates)

I saw a web site promoting Free Driving Directions & Maps with updates. What's the catch? I never saw anybody giving these away for free.

Don't know without...

Don't know without more info.

What is the name of the web site?

Well, I can't find it now.

Well, I can't find it now. It was a advertisement on the getting started page. Now that I have logged on, I lost it. Some kind of gimmick I would guess.

Found It

I found it. It's a pop-up advertisement on the Getting Started page.

I really intended for this to go into the Chit Chat Thread, but I screwed up somewhere along the line.

I’m so skeptical of the word FREE that I’ll be afraid of what else be downloading along with the tool.

It won't have anything to due with Garmin GPS units as all their updates, except maps, are free anyway. Maps can only be downloaded from the Garmin Website or purchased from them or an authorized dealer.

Pop Ups

Anyone that clicks on a Pop Up promoting something FREE is going to get more than he hoped for!

I agree

Your most likely asking for trouble

I wouldn't click on it at

I wouldn't click on it at all. I have enough problems as it is.

Virus

This is exacly how a virus can get promoted. Some people will click on it because it says "Free". This is how they get you. I am constantly cleaning a friends PC due to this type of stuff. Don't click on it - period.

You Don't Have To Click It, I Did. - It's A NavTeq Ad

If they made that more obvious, it wouldn't appear to be sinister. They're promoting updating your maps and will link you back to the GPSr manufacturer web site to update your maps.

I used the computer at work that is outside of our security. It's an older de-commissioned PC. We use it for testing questionable links and consider the data on the drive as "disposeable". If it gets a virus we'll just wipe it.
