Buying used Garmin 1390LMT

Question, supposedly if you purchase a used Garmin GPS that has the lifetime map updates the new owner will also have the ability to get those updates also? Is this true as all the sellers are saying this. I know I can call Garmin Monday but thought I would ask here first.
Thanks

But we are talking about a

But we are talking about a unit that when purchased comes with the lifetime updates (not really a subscription)? Would that not be like a car warranty, does not matter who the owner is?

Same thing on units purchased with Lifetime Update

The statement is also typical in the listing of Garmins that are purchased with Lifetime Traffic Updates.

See here for the statement RE the 1390LMT with "Free" Life Time Updates: https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=134&pID=82600

Scroll down to near the bottom of the page.

BTW Be sure that the seller will unregister the unit with Garmin when they sell it to you.

It really is a subscription even if it came as a "packaged deal" with the GPSr.

The original owner made the agreement via the Garmin EULA notification when the unit and its lifetime map update was registered with Garmin.

So the way I am reading that

So the way I am reading that section at the bottom is that the Lifetime maps are with the unit and any owner but the Lifetime Traffic is not transferable?

Not transferable...

Not transferable...

Lifetime traffic is going to

Lifetime traffic is going to work no matter what as long as you have the cord with the antenna built in. This is a feature built into the unit. It is not s subscription r and it does require that you look at popup ads that will come on the screen intermittently when you are stopped. You can turn off the ads but at the same time this will turn off the traffic feature.

The Lifetime Maps is a totally different story. When someone buys a Garmin that includes lifetime maps they are given a non-transferable subscription for lifetime map updates. Garmin will know when you go to download the map update that you are not the original registered owner of this unit's serial number and will tell you that you cannot download maps for it.

Costco is selling new Garmins with LMT right now for less than $150. Why bother with a used unit? The lifetime maps alone cost $89 for s subscription.
