Lifetime Updater utility

Has anyone had success with this new Garmin utility?

I noted an update for CNNA 2012.2 and downloaded the file. No mention is made as to where it went, but I did find it in the C:\Program Data\Garmin folder. From there I executed the msi file and it did install, but 2012.2 was locked.

The next step was to execute the msi file again and uninstall it, followed by installation using the Lifetime Updater utility which requested that the GPS be connected, which I did.

It went through the steps of installation. However, the new maps don't show up in either Mapsource or Basecamp.

A new folder was created for 2012.2 and registry changes made. Some files on the GPS now have today's date.

The program was set to install on the computed only.

Sorry about problems

Sorry you had problems with that. I was tempted to use this but I decided not to because I've got a vacation coming and wanted to avoid a possible situation like that. Let us know how this turns out.

I had the Lifetime Updater

set to update the compter and device. I have 3 GPSs setup in the Updater. I see 2012.2 maps in both MapSource and BaseCamp and on the Zumo 660.

I then connected one of the nuvi 765Ts and the Lifetime Updater failed everytime trying to install the map saying it had some sort of problem with the files and to contact Garmin. It was getting late so I just did the MyGarmin thing to get the update done. It was quick because it used the maps the the Lifetime Updater downloaded.

So "yes to the zumo and no to the 765T" answering your question.

Ah, I got it install completely!

I suspect that the issue was that the first attempt using the msi file produced some entries that didn't go away when I attempted to uninstall using that same msi file.

This time I used Revo Uninstaller, then the Garmin utility to update and it worked.

@all

I heartily recommend Revo Uninstaller

Running it in "Advanced" mode gets rid of the registry entries and files that the built-in uninstaller leaves behind.

Mac version was fine and dandy. Clicked "check for update", it showed available, it downloaded, installed on computer & 765t. All is well.

I have used Revo for a long period of time with great results. This time is the exception using XP Windows.I thought is was gone using the advance mode.Went back to program files and in the Garmin folder there is was. Some files would not even let me remove them.Done the re-name etc.Move to another folder still no delete would work. Finally moved file to a usb drive and was able to delete.

I am still on XP for several computers (vista on laptop). What package were you trying to delete? Had it been in start-up and possibly some portion of it running when you tried to uninstall?

The Revco using advance mode

The Revco using advance mode went through complete cycle and showed as completed with no left over files. It was the new Garmin updater that came out.Same problem with moving webroot security a while back.Like I posted, have used Revo for a right long time. There are some programs that will cause problems. This is only two that I had problems with. That lifetime updater was nothing but a problem for me.Couldn't delete it fast enough.Got message not enough space to install complete map.All files not needed have been deleted previous on the gps.Knew I had enough space with some left over.Went back to old method and full installed went without a hitch.

Worked fine for me

Used the lifetime updater util on the Folks 255W and it worked well. If you go into the settings you can set this to update after midnight so it doesn't get in your way. I forgot how long the install is even after the download.
