Finally

Looked on Garmin site and iTunes store and neither says if it can make calls and continue to navigate or anything about custom POI's, but definitely a step in the right direction for Garmin. I would like to get a look at the in app purchases to see about map upgrades etc.

it's the platform

From my understanding it's more a limitation of the iPhone as one of the major complaints was it wouldn't multitask. Whether or not that's been corrected or not with current versions I don't know but it was the major drawback to earlier units.

AppStore description includes the following:
- Continuous navigation during an active call

I've found nothing about the ability to do custom POIs - so I'm going to presume it's not possible until they say otherwise.

More to look at - an FAQ
https://buy.garmin.com/support/searchSupport/search.faces?re...

No custom POIs, no ability to download or upload favorites, can do custom routes with multiple stops within the app...

It seems to me that Iphone

It seems to me that Iphone always gets everything first. I use Android but wonder if the Navigon application in the Andorid Market is the exat same product as the Garmin Iphone applications.

It's Navigon's Android app - Garmin now owns Navigon... hence, Garmin sells an Android app.

I hardly consider the current Navigon app a Garmin app. Just because Garmin bought the company doesn't mean the app is truly "Garmin".

Manufacturer Asus seems to have secured the exclusive rights to use GPS giant Garmin’s PND software on Android smartphones. This little piece of news comes not too long after hearing that a previous partnership between Asus and Garmin had dissolved. Now it does seem the two companies will work together on future devices but they will be branded individually.

It looks like Asus will return to single-branding its devices, and for Garmin, it means freedom to distribute their software how they see fit. They do have plans to release Garmin apps into both the Apple App store, and for Blackberry App World. Whatever the new situation will be, both companies say they will stay close partners that will continue to support co-branded devices on the market.

From Asus Mobile General Manager Benson Lin:

“We are moving from a co-brand to a brand cooperation, and we will use Garmin’s solutions in our new Android phones exclusively for a couple of years.”

Who are you quoting here? I usually like to see an acknowledgement and a possible link to the source so I can read it verbatim..

importing address book from existing Garmin to Garmin on iPhone?

Is it possible to import my address book from an existing Garmin device to the Garmin on iPhone?

The app is going to pull from the phone's address book... and if you're using bluetooth to connect your phone to a bluetooth capable Garmin device, it gets the address book from the phone as well.

Great information, thank

Great information, thank you. It is a shame that there is no way to save addresses in a central location (ie. a Garmin 'cloud network' of some type), to pull from either phone GPS's, or an individual GPS device itself instead or depending on bluetooth.

Thanks

I saw this as well. Not sure if I would cough up $50 for the apps yet. Life time maps?
