Tutoral on creating warning POI

I have figured out how to create a POI to drive to a specific place.
My question is how to create a POI file to warn me with a speed warning alert for multiple locations. I downloaded one of the school POI as a practice. It looks like its asking me to "GO" to a specific school when I try to activate it.
I may not be setting this up correctly.

XXXX School A@20
XXXX School B@20
XXXX School C@20

Do you have to activate school B because its on your route specifically? What if your driving through an area you dont know, how do these triggers get activated?

is there a good tutoral site to learn a little more advanced info on playing with these POI's?

Thanks

On my unit, I do not have to be on a route for the alerts to sound. Be aware that the alerts won't generally sound unless you are on a road headed in the direction of the POI location (or sometimes on a parallel road.) Generally, they will not alert when you are on a road perpendicular to the road that the POI is on.

This is from the Help File of POI Loader.

.
POI Loader automatically scans .csv and .gpx data files for speed and proximity alert information.

You can also use Manual mode to specify default speed and proximity alert information as needed.

-------
Speed information can be included in the file name or in the names of individual POIs within the file.

POI Loader determines speed information based on the following information, listed from highest to lowest priority:

* Speed information included in the name of the individual Custom POI. For example, a POI named "SpeedZone@30" will have an alert speed of 30 regardless of the speed information specified in Manual mode or in the file name.

* Speed information entered in Manual mode.

* Speed information included in the file name. POI Loader interprets any numbers in the file name as speed information.

------
Proximity alert information can be calculated automatically based on speed information. It can also be included in .gpx data files or added in Manual mode.

POI Loader determines proximity alert information based on the following criteria, listed from highest to lowest priority:

* Proximity alert information listed for individual POIs in a .gpx file. This information overrides all other proximity alert information.

* Proximity alert information entered in Manual mode.

* Proximity alert distance calculated by POI Loader based on speed information in the file name or in individual POI names. This calculation uses the following formula:

Prompt Distance = 36 seconds * Speed.

* A default proximity alert distance of 400 meters/0.25 miles if the file name contains the word "redlight."

*If there is a TourGuide audio file attached and no other proximity alert information is available, POI Loader assigns a proximity alert distance of 0.25 miles.

File name with number worked great.

MM,
After reading thru your post I tried adding "@20" to my school-list file name. Worked like a charm.

I had added a bmp icon... and a short mp3 file to the effect... "Waring... school zone" It worked great too. What surprised me is that it did not play just once. As long as I was going faster that 20 mph... it keep playing over... and over... and over while I was near the school. (I was running 30 on the street cause it was after school hours and that is the normal speed limit.)

My question... is it possible to control the playback to only once? More than likely I'm just going to take the audio file out of the folder anyway... cause schools about out and most of them are closed for the summer anyway. But, I was just curious.

PS... currently running 181000+ POIs. The "schools" file is one of my largest.

I just got a Nuvi 360, and I'm not sure if it has the same options as your unit, but this is what I found.
Click on the Wrench... Go to "Proximity Alerts", "Alerts Change", at the bottom, my unit has "Audio". That gives me the option of Single tone, Continuous - Speed Alerts, or Continuous - All Alerts. You may have it setup for Continuous, and that is why it continues to warn you, instead of just warning once.
I hope this helps.

Garmin Nuvi 660

I set as Single tone and the

I set as Single tone and the Nuvi alerts me once, but if I reduce the speed below 20 then I accelerate over 20 Mr. Nuvi sends a new alert.
I think this is good.

Anyway the best is that I receive the aler only if the school is on my road and not for the schools that are close to me but on a parallel road.

bye.

Yeah, there is a way.

SLOW DOWN!!! ;P

Seriously, this is the only way on the Zumo if you set a speed alert. If it's a problem for you, you might want to consider changing it to a proximity alert.

(Yeah, I know ... it's almost 200,000 locations.) smile

You could keep the same audio alert and make it only a proximity alert instead of based on speed.

JavaScript!

It's a JavaScript library for communicating with Garmin GPS devices. It allows developers to exchange their GPS data with web sites using just a USB cable. The JavaScript communicates with the Garmin browser plugin making it easy to transfer GPS device data such as points of interest, waypoints, tracks and routes. You should have a basic understanding of JavaScript before attempting to use it.
