Activating Custom POI

I am not a computer whiz, and this is my first GPS. I took my first trip and I have downloaded a few (quite a few) custom POI's in my nuvi 1450LMT. As I tooled down the road I saw signs that told me of spots that I feel the GPS should have let me know. The only one it did was Rest areas, and I-5 has a lot of signs for these also. And I was told about all the Safeway stores, McDonalds, Fedex stores, Starbucks Coffee shops, etc. These places I did NOT ask for. I saw a term on "Tips and Tricks. "Place your GPS in Custom POI ready mode". That was all. How do I do this? Remember puter dummy here. TIA

I would 2nd that visit

because I have been to Rapid City and to Devils Tower and the surrounding area. It is a great area and those 2 are close together.

This has been an interesting thread to follow. I'm 67 and likely a lot more PC savvy than most my age but I too had difficulty getting a TourGuide to work. Unlike most others, I have infinite patience and I will try innumerable tests to get it right. Long way of saying that the advice posted on this thread was right on and I am surprised (pleasantly) at the candor of several of the messages - most refreshing.

And one more observation from the sidelines, If I was ChuckD, I'd take up Evert's offer to visit.

@ Evert

I did use

Quote:

Quote = POGO: We have met the enemy and he is us. smile

meaning mostly ME I have to admit that I am often my own worst enemy. I think that ChuckD would say that about himself.

Thanks for being honest about your experience level. Maybe we can learn something from that.

I am not sure what you mean by that. Do you mean that all of us have been dishonest about our computer experience or do you have a mouse in your pocket? smile

I hope that my comments in my post above were not interpreted by anyone as a slam on them. "Computer experience" means many things to many people. Some people know much about how certain packages work. Some people understand browsers. Some are knowledgable about the operating system. Some know lots of shortcuts.

I often have a mouse in my pocket but I try to learn.

What I have learned in my years in Information Technology is that the author of a User's Manual should almost never be the person who wrote the package. That person knows too much and has a tendency to assume that others are more knowledgable than they are. That leads to frustration on the part of the "user" - exactly the opposite of what was intended.

Hi Gary.

That looked like the result of an American Indian using peyote as part of the preparation for his vision quest. smile

(My Windows Media Player vizualizations was set at "battery-randomization".)

BTW the OP cannot use mp3 files.

Which reminds me, I wonder if he changed from mp3 to wav by renaming the file name extension like another neophyte recently did?

I was going to ask him but did not get the chance.
