Did you create a new poi file?
Did you create a new poi?
Was this an existing poi file that is maintained by someone else?
Is this a file you maintain?

If its a file you maintain you can update it a couple ways. One way is a on line update through the edit tab. The other way is download the file, make changes then upload the file again. It will replace the one on the site.

Update Files

If it is one of the 3 files your are the maintainer of on this website you should already have a copy of the file on your computer. If you do not then you can download it back to your PC.

Edit the POIs in your file on your computer and save it. Then go to your "My Account" on this website, click on the file you just editted and you can upload it back to the site again. It will just replace the existing file.

You don't edit the files on the website. You always just upload new copies.

that i know how. example I

that i know how.

example I create a wal-mart POI file for create it im going to wal-mart.com and see all adress and copy the and coordinate in my new file.

But 1 moth later wal-mart have closed 3 store and opened 2 newest.

my question is: To update my poi file, does i need to go on the website of wal mart and compare the adress on my poi and the adress on the website to see wich one are open and closed??

Or its possible to do that more fastly

Are you using the Walmart

Are you using the Walmart file from POI-Factory?

If you are then you need to send the corrected info to the Walmart file maintainer. He will up date the file on the website.

You can always edit your local copy until the maintainer posts the new update.

Don't reinvent

First off, you don't need to monitor the Wal-Mart site for any changes. Using Wal-Mart as you have are using it for an example, DonaldB does a very competent job of updating the list of stores with coordinates here on this site.

Assuming you download one of the files from here, the name of the file along with the date the maintainer last updated the file will appear in the "My Favorite Files" list just below your user name. When an update is posted, a flag stating "New" will appear in the list of your "favorite files" with the file name along with the date of the update. You can then download the list and use it to update your files on the GPS.

Most of the file maintainers also give the type of update such as adding or removing stores or the position coordinates being updated to accurately guide to the store. You can usually see these on the download page for the particular file. This gives you the opportunity to decide if you need to update the file or not. A change to a store location in an area you are not liable to visit isn't necessarily a reason to install a new version, but if you are planning a trip that may take you into areas you normally don't visit, then an update might be needed.

With the effort it takes to build a good POI file, it doesn't make much sense to keep reinventing the wheel when someone else has gone to the effort. You may still want to rework the file you dowwnload because information in the file isn't the way you want to see it, but at least you don't have to spend hours comparing addresses from the website to the list you have in your file.

wal mart is an example ''i

wal mart is an example ''i dont want to update wal mart''

but example XYZ store.

1- i create the file

2- 1 month later 3 new store.

3- Does i need to go on XYZstore.com to compare the list with my file? and spend 2 hours or its possible to have a fatest way to update a file then i have created

.

AFAIK there is no program which allows you to compare a POI file to a website to see if there are changes to addresses.

The best you could hope for is that the website allows you to download a list of the stores in a spreadsheet format. Then you could compare the two files in a spreadsheet program such as Excel.

Ok thank ... i will have a

Ok thank ... i will have a fun tonight...

does usually website put CSV

does usually website put CSV on their website??

or does a website host CSV

What some of us do

What some of us do is search/scan the website for additions/deletions of stores or whatever the poi file is. We will update our file and then upload it to the site.
What I do if it is very minor is just change it on this site.
What helps us (maintainers) a lot is the community that uses our file will let us know if there is a change such as a missing store, address change, coordinate change. The community is what makes this great.

We all strive to have perfect files but that isn't always possible.

As for csv files on web sites...I have not seen any. There are a few that allow a download of there stores but very few. We will contact the store and ask to get a list and that sometimes works.

Add New Speed Trap to Someone Else's POI?

There's a frequently manned speed trap on an interstate that is not in the speedtraps poi for that highway. What is the procedure to alert the poi author? I have saved the location (by pressing the vehicle icon on the screen and saving location). So now it is in my Favorites, but how does it get put into the poi? Is there a way I can add it myself, or does the author have to add it and upload it?

Thanks.

Just wondering about speed trap POI files?

Near my home, there is a location where a mobile speed van is on watch ever couple of weeks or so. I have seen this same van from time to time at another location I often pass through. My feeling is that they are put at locations that have had accidents related to speeding and are being used to slow people down for a few days. They are usually marked with a sign (movable) that says there is a speed van ahead.

Let's say that I and some of my friends created a POI file for the most common locations where these mobile speed vans (as there are several) have been spotted. The odds that they will be at a particular location on any given day is small.

What is the benefit of my uploading the POI file to poi-factory. There will not be that many other members in my city, first of all; then, they are random, and, I have never seen them on any major highway that anyone would use on a route through my city.

If one typically drives the speed limit, there is no value; if one drives with the flow of traffic, it is likely that these mobile units are giving a grace speed differential anyway.

Looking at the ones on the site now, very few have been updated in 2011.

I admit that they are a good exercise for the maintainer in learning about POI files, but what is the value to me?

Would the poi file have "value" if:

the speed van were in my town and one were a stranger driving through?

If one was distracted one day and exceed the speed limit without realizing it (even though one "typically drives the speed limit"?

If the officer decides to exercise his/her discretion and pulls one over even though "everyone else was doing the same speed over the limit"?

By the same token, what is "value" of RLC poi's?

PS: This is not an attack on you -- just following the reasoning and wondering aloud.

To answer your question

If there is a POI for that particular interstate; say, I-95, pull up the POI and then click on the name at the top. For instance, stevek8n9, takes care of the I-95 speed trap file. When you click on the maintainer's name, you will see a contact button. Click on that and e-mail the coordinates and address, mile-marker, etc. to them. The changes should then be made by the maintainer. Conversely, you can open the file yourself and make the corrections to the file. However, this will only change your copy of the file. It will not change the file that is on the POI website.
