POI Loader will no longer over write old files

I have used the older version of POI Loader many times with no problem(it was just slow). Today I finally updated to latest version and moved sox.exe to that directory as well. After running the latest POI Loader I still have all my old files and subfolders. So I ran it again, this time using the option to remove all POIs. Now I have three sets of POIs. What am I doing wrong?

Maybe this

I am not sure exactly what you are doing but for one thing POI Loader will not delete any files or folders on your computer - just .gpi files on your garmin.

Sounds to me like you are using a different name for your .gpi file each time and thus getting the redundant pois on your garmin.

That sounds odd to me too --

That sounds odd to me too -- try to run it again with the "remove all POIs" option and then unplug the unit and see if they are all gone. If so, then the problem is with your re-load. If they're not, then maybe you can find the folder on the Garmin itself and manually delete stuff? Might be risky to play with that though.

use the same name every time

It will overwrite the previous gpi file if you use the same file name every time in the user changeable file name box when running POI loader.

Still don't work

After selecting: “Remove all previously installed custom POIs from your device”
I have the same files that I had befote.

1. Custom POIs.gpi 10,320 kb
2. Poi.gpi 10,320 kb
3. Untitled.gdb 204 kb
4. XMLDebug.txt 2 kb
I don't know where the number 2. Poi.gpi name is coming from.
I think I will uninstall/reinstall

poi.gpi

Poi.gpi is the default name that the older Poi Loader loader used. The newer one should default to the name of the folder on your computer that you point to.

What name for the .gpi file are you using when you run Poi Loader?

If those files are in the \Garmin\POI folder, Poi Loader should have deleted them when you chose remove all POIs. But if they are somewhere else, Poi Loader may not delete them. You can delete them directly yourself.

I have never stored my POI's in the Garmin folder. I have always been able to delete all POI's using the POI Loader. But, about 2 months ago, things changed. I have no clue why but now the POI Loader doesn't delete the folder when you click to do it. I now go directly into the folder using Windows Explorer, delete it and then run POI Loader.

I can not check this because my unit is on vacation without me, but my recollection is that POILoader 2.6.1 presents you with two options just after you select where you wish POILoader to operate. One is to load files and the other is to delete ALL ,gpi files.

Usually your .gpi files are in the X:\(Nuvi)\Garmin\POI folder on the GPS. There probably should be one named "poi.gpi" that is left from the previous version of POILoader becase that was the name of the file that it ALWAYS generated (overwriting any poi.gpi file that might have been there).

If you take the delete all files option, I always assumed that you would then do a second run of POILoader in order to create new .gpi files in the just cleaned out X:\(Nuvi)\Garmin\POI folder on the GPS.

It would not hurt to safely disconnect the GPS after the delete run of POILOader and then reconnect the GPS and load files.

As was mentioned above, POILoader will not delete files on the PC (except if you point it to some directory there - maybe if you were doing testing of POILoader).

Please get back to us and let us know where you stand. Thanks

Thanks for everyone's help. The new version seams to work very differently, not bad just different.
