Our company currently uses the Magellan Maestro 3225 that allows us to create custom POI's for all of our customer locations. Unfortunately Magellan stopped making this model and it seems this option. Does anyone know of a new model or even a different brand that will allow custom POI's? We tried the Garmin Nuvi 1300, this unit will allow custom POI's but it is one large flat file. With the Magellan we were able to add folders and changeable files. We are dealing with a lot of locations 500+ so a flat type file structure is not really an option.
Any suggestions for a new type would be greatly appreciated.
You have several options in the Garmin line ranging from a single flat file to individual files.
Depending on your needs, you can either write a single file by specifically naming the POI Loader output file to grouping customers by region and placing them within folders.
These two methods allow the greatest amount of customization/organization and can be easy to maintain once set up.
How did you want the files set up?
If you do individual states as an example, then you will need to create an individual GPI output file for each state with that state's name. The same can be done with groups arranged into regions.
Regions can be created by putting all the customers within the region into a single folder which can then be either a single output file or part of a larger flat file. Doing regions and putting them within a single file allows several states to be grouped, but the limit is 32 subfolders. Garmin's POI Loader software allows one level of folders below the root or top-level folder.
