POI Verifier. v1.0.0.9 Corrects Glitch

"Houston, we got a problem!"

After checking over 500 POIs with 'POI Verifier', I found a POI it won't parse correctly ...... so here's version 1.0.0.9 that corrects the problem. Download it at POI Verifier. It's still free.

As always

Thanks for this program. It has been one of the most useful tools I've used in production of POI files.

Question

Am I ok to remove the original file after running verifier?

Funny Mike. Thanks sRT!

I usually keep both

That would be up to you. I usually keep the original file along with the _V file. Most of the POI files are so small the hard drive hardly knows they're there.

a question on the verifier

I was tring to use your program to break out a big poi file to states, What I noticed was that on the states, it would also grab differnt states too. So I thought my cord. were wrong and chewcked them to find they are ok.. Is this suppose to happen?

Yes, it will.

If you have a new version, you shouldn't have to enter any coordinates, just select the state or Providence from a drop down menu.

Each one of 'POI Verifier' selections have a 'help' window if you place your mouse pointer on the selection; so if you slide the mouse pointer on the 'Check to create file ..... for this state' check box it will explain it. It's also explained on the download webpage.

"Since the state search is based on a longitude and latitude rectangle which encompasses the state, POIs from neighboring states may be displayed". It should grab all of the POIs within that state. You'll then have to remove the few from neighboring states you don't want. It still beats looking through all 50 states; or worse yet, through all of the states plus Canada, Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico. If you have a state that is close to rectangle, it's pretty accurate. If the state is Texas, you will get POI's from neighboring state.

Short of plotting many, many, many longitude and latitude points along each state border, I don't know of any other way of doing it. There are several websites giving the latitude and longitude of US States and Canada Providences; and everyone I've seen is based on 4 coordinates.

Hope this helps.

Yes

Yes it does help.. That i what I thougt.. I took the ones that were in one state and merged them in another just to run you program and found I had dups again.. I will just run it and delete the strays for now on.. much easier.. Your program did save me a lot of time on my poi files (Offbeat) I finlly used it to clean up any dups and errors that were in the "all States" I als used it to break it down by state.. GREAT PROGRAM!!

THanks for your hard work on it. I was wondering what are you using to create it?

I am in IT (Network Admin) and do alittle programming myself.. I repackage alot of software in a MSI package so that users and citrix can use it better..

quick question

If I check more than one box, which file created is the most current or corrected?

How to?

I have uploaded your program, but could you explain how to use it? I'm not sure what to do. I have been uploading POIs without checking and I think I should be using your program.

Thanks for all your help.

I'd suggest reading the download page. Also, the program has pop-up help windows as you pass your mouse pointer over each function. Give this a try and if you have a more specific question, let me know.

The _V file is the (V)erifed copy of the original file that is corrected and/or notifies you of possible problems with the original file.

The _M file has the linebreaks (M)odified to correctly display on a nuvi 350 and 360. Unless you have one of these units, don't check this option.

The _R has all linebreaks (R)emoved. Some programs don't tolerate linebreaks, so this is an option to change the POI to work on thse programs.

Then, of course, there is the log file of the operations; and the state-selected files if this option is selected.

My suggestion is to play with it, then view the resulting files with Notepad.

If you want to contact me via email, click on the user name and select 'Contact'.

Thanks.
